Newbie questions

Few newbie questions for those good enough to answer, just getting cracking with the game, enjoying it a lot and wanted to see if anyone could help me with a few pointers:

- I have picked up THM and WVR, is there a level I need to be to pick up another class i.e Botany (not sure of the abbreviation) If so, what is the requirement, if not, where can I learn it? I'm in the Ul'dah at the moment (apologies if my spelling is off)

- Following on from that, my friends are based in a different starting city, at what point can I meet up with them and how do I go about it? Currently my overarching storyling and all my hunting achievements are based in my starting city and it's surrounds, is it going to cause me a problem to move cities?

- Not sure whether to go for Summoner or Black Mage later on down the line, any views on how they play? Is the summoner a traditional pet class i.e a dps/tank/healer pet option and then the player themself does damage spells and possibly buffs their pet?

Question one you just have to find the guild to that job take the guild quest and then begins i think the guilds all of them have a main quest at every 5 levels im sure you can unlock them all right now if u wanted.
edit: not every city has all the guilds so if you dont see the guild you want in ul'dah you will have to go to one of the other cities to start that. example im going for paladin started as gladiator but for paladin you need cnj you have to go to gridinia to get that so i had to wait till i traveled there through story progession


Question 2 If you follow the storyline eventually you get the airship unlocked then once you go to other citys make sure you attune urself to any crystals you see to teleport there i ahve all the crystals for each city so including city there are 5 per. normally city north zone south zone east zone and west zone.

Question 3 i cant answer im a tank eventually ill try those jobs but cant help ya now hope that helps you

To add to this...

You get access to airship by doing your lvl 15 class quests. Botany i believe is in girdania.

Advice: Make sure when you do the lvl 15 quests....to get ALL the stone atunements in each city. the quests will make you travel to all three starter cities. you get to go for free the first time. all times after that you either gotta pay to warp, or pay to fly. warping is pricy but worth it if you dont always wanna walk back to the airship.

Thanks both for the advice. I've done my level 15 THM quest though, unlocked a new skill but no airships. Although I haven't done the level 15 story quest so I'm assuming that the one you mean?

Will pick up Botany when I hit girdania then, looks like the one best suited to help with my Weaving. Cotton for the win!

Be aware that you'll need to get Botany to 11 and get the offhand in order to see and harvest the nodes that give wvr mats. At first all you can see are trees.

You can actually walk / run between the cities but due to the high level mobs on the way you're mostlikely get killed in about 10 seconds. In Griday there is the main story quest called "Gridania Envoy" which would give you the airship pass and first free trip to Limsa Lominsa and Uldah as part of the quest. After that you can freely purchase airship tickets to any of the main cities (200 gill) or use favourite aethernets to teleport directly about 90 - 250 gills depending on location. The main story quest's are those with flame frame around the exclamation signs.

Yes your class quest will give you Airship access at Level 15, it is a hard one but worth the effort. You CAN walk to Gridania, thru Eastern Thanlan, and then the Lower Shround but you have to take the air ship to get to Limsa Lomisa I think, unless you go thru a dangerous area lower levels can't get thru. Have fun.
