How slowly chocobo gets rank?

I've been having the damned bird out for every single fight for the past 7 levels (atleast 200 greens spent) and it is still at rank 1 with no abilities and only free stance available.

Am I doing something wrong?

I noticed the same thing. Feel like I'm doing something wrong. Mine stopped at level 2.

i level my 'bo up by spamming the crap out of fates. this assures that i'm leveled down to the content and maximise my bird's exp gain.

got me to rank 2 in a couple hours with enough points to buy the first skills in the attacker and healer trees, and have a point left over.

Ranks 1 and 2 are pretty quick to get, 2 to 3 takes a lot longer. It's not supposed to be something extremely fast though this will suck for people that want to use it for a healer and only have the choco regen and not the direct heal.
I think there's even an achievement for completely maxing out the chocobo which might give some indication they want it to take a while.
