If someone has Topaz out, I don't fight Topaz for aggro, and I let it do its thing. However, I prefer that Topaz is put away when things get serious.
The problem with pet tanks is that they interfere with tanks doing their role properly. Pet tanks position enemies badly, and face them in the wrong direction. They interfere with AoE skills, unless the tank follows Topaz's lead and stands wherever it happens to put enemies.
If the fight is easy, go ahead and have Topaz out. If the fight is difficult, please understand that even though Topaz is taking a few hits for the tank, they can make the tank and everyone else work harder. If the fight gets difficult, probably Topaz will die anyway, so the problem will take care of itself.
