It is not wrong to make money off of something. lets turn this into an analogy. The video game Streamers and video makers are a hotdog stand. they sell hotdogs, SE is a hotdog producer. in order to sell SE's hotdogs you need to get there permission and are likely either paying them for the supply or have to give a commission of your profits to them for using their hotdogs. without the hotdogs your not a hotdog stand. so yes you may not make 100% profit off your business, but there is no business that does. you cant just steal hotdogs and sell them.

does that break it down? I am not saying you cant profit off of selling your videos, neither is SE. what they are saying is, if you want to, 1. we need to know, and we need to get compensated for using our product in yours.

if your not willing to do that, well then business is not for you. That is exactly how goods and services works, the foundation of our economy. Everyone should have learned this in school...

Well, there goes the incentive to build a community around this game. I was looking forward to the full-time youtube content developers and their constant stream of commentary and game guides.

Change your position on this, SE. You have a great community with some talented youtube developers willing to promote your game for a living.

Watch this video. It's the completely opposite case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbg0q2edmug

The free marketing those streamers and YouTubers are doing it's working extremely well for Blizzard.

Archaic interpretation of the law is archaic.

The vast majority of Youtube content creators are artists in their own right. They have the right to make fair use of the FFXIV content to create content about the game, and use their creativity to bring the community something special. This creativity and expression is being stifled now, and none of the big Youtube personalities are going to be putting content out for us to enjoy now. It's a lose-lose for the community, and a lose-lose for the content creators on Youtube, and Square Enix loses out as well. All that free advertisement would have been nice, but they want to be greedy and out of touch with the year 2013. Their decision, but it's a really bad choice, imho.

You really have no clue how this works, do you?

People who create youtube content are artists, and artists deserve to be paid for their hard work. The content they create is helpful to the community and free advertising for Square Enix. How they could be so out of touch, like Nintendo, and make a decision like this baffles my brain. It is wrong on so many levels, and I'm going to make a prediction that it gets overturned when they realized how badly they've shot themselves in the foot.

One last thing, who out there doesn't respect the YogsCast, or Total Biscuit, or WoWcrendor, or Jessee Cox, or Mr. Happy, I could go on... for the content they put out because they monetize it?

It is content that is enjoyed by millions of viewers each and every day. People understand these content creators aren't going to spend their entire lives making videos for the community if they get nothing in return. They have to make a living, and there is nothing wrong with that.

tough not going to happen with this game get over it because as soon as the "next big game" comes out the streamers and youtubers will move on and try and make money off people's hype in the long run they will not be helping this game.

If these guys want to make money reviewing games they need to get a REAL JOB in the REAL WORLD. PERIOD.
May I ask you how much you earn in your "real job"?

Because I know some people who do streaming that earn more than the average "real worker". I know this streamer (will avoid names, just to be safe from SE watching on them) that makes an average of 1k-2k USD per day, just by streaming about 7-8 hours per day.

A little quote from his channel:

THE HALL OF RAPE Thank you to all my top donators of all time, to Amhai-$57,000, Obaid-$40,000, Marwan-$5000, Edge275-$3750, Tupac The Great-$2250, Blessemex-$1500, Riivio-$1180, Spectre1887-$1005, Philip-$1000

I also know this streamer that has been interviewed by World of Warcraft developers (pvp) and is sponsored by Razer, Origin, and many more big brands.

Gaming can be more than what you see it as, there are gaming academies that will sponsor you as a gamer and give you stuff to promote their brand. Razer, for instance.

Have you ever heard of the "Evil Geniuses" group? Well, you could start using google and searching a bit, before you state things like this ever again.

Now, will all these people that make a living from gaming take their time to promote this game if they can't get revenue from it? Ofcourse not, if they can play other games that will let them get revenue they will go for those. Such as WoW, GW2, LoL, Dota, Counter Strike, etc.

IP? You're not selling the game or it's content, you're entertaining people and that's why people follow YouTubers and streamers. Not just because of one game...

Good luck with the low budget videos, not even Machinima will exist for FFXIV, because you can't put music over the original one, nor making a mash-up of the video.

Hope you guys see the point now.

It's always nice when someone of such intelligence blesses the rest with his presence. Tell me friend, what is the difference between someone that reviews games and someone that has a "real job" in the "real world"? I didn't even know we had different worlds my god this is insightful.

I know it might be hard for someone of your divine intelligence, but please think before replying to my question.
