Why do people complain, that they can't get money from the work of others?
If you really want to do videos, do it. But without the money.

As an artist, I have to say this.
There's no such thing as "Free advertisement".
Having someone else get money for something you work hard on (Big company or no) isnt fair to the 1st party at all.
I honestly think anyone who uses the "Oh, well- Im making free advertisment for a good cause!" really are the worse sort of people....
I think SE is more then capable of doing their own advertising....I know what it's called and I know what it is. Do you know what patronizing is?
Funny how so many other game companies of small and bigger sizes than SE don't seem to have a problem with YouTube content. Also funny how many people will mindlessly defend unnecessary SE policies even though SE and FFXIV could potentially gain so much more without them.
I don't expect most of you to understand, since most of you have no idea how much work YouTubers actually do to make high quality videos. I guess then I shouldn't expect people to listen either when I say, from my experienced point of view, it hurts the game and the company. And that's my concern.
And, comparing the hardwork of actually developing a game (Pre-production, animation, debug, server building, coding, texturing, model building, landscaping, composing, PR, advertising, writing, localizing, VO, ect) I do believe it greatly outweighs the hardwork of making a YT video of it (Recording, commentary, actually playing the game, editing)
Im pretty sure he'll play on twitch, if he cant post a vid on YT.
Im pretty sure anyone can play on YT. Just not when your channel is set to monetize...
By monetizing, you are claiming to "own" the product. Because you are getting paid for it.Honest questions here:
I understand that I don't own SE's intellectual property. However, if I don't claim to own it, and I instead cite my credits where they're due, then how can there still be an issue? For that matter, if I alter their content enough for it to be considered original content -- doesn't that have a truckload of lawful legal precedent already? Don't we also have something (in America at least) called freedom of the press? Or are you saying that news sites like GameBreaker.tv, or television programs about tech news, shouldn't be allowed to talk about this game either? I mean... I understand them wanting to draw a line somewhere, but isn't a line of this magnitude at least a little unreasonable?
If you have a regular account, you can credit SE, and say your under Free Use.
That system doesnt work the same for YT partners....
And, as for news sites, SE usually gives them express permission to advert their games (Again, SE is more then capable to buy their own adverts).
AlsoThe bill of rights really dont apply to big name companies. None of them. Period (Because they own the governmentloljk)

Biggest problem is , a lot of those really cool video makers and stuff will not. Be able to make a video review on the game. Even it is a positive review or negative review. If they got a ad screen on there youtube video , or even technical. If own a fan website that got ads in the videos, you will be unable to review it or if got ads on the websites. What is sad to say. That will happen is all the cool videos will then go underground. Like in the old days of the internet. Heck some the talent there going to miss out on they may even . Think about hiring them for promo events and stuff.
I know what it's called and I know what it is. Do you know what patronizing is?

Then as an artist, you should know what the difference is. YouTube content makers are not stealing credit for content made by other people. They are working with another persons product and creating their own, unique creation. Especially when they add their own commentary and sometimes a "Facecam", it's no longer copyright. Just like an artist will sketch a character from a Final Fantasy game and sell their picture at a comic convention. Yes, the character is originally designed by an employee at SE, but other artists, for centuries have been using other artists designs, putting their own spin on it, and profiting. As an artist, I have to say this.

Principles.
Too bad for the people uploading onto Youtube though, they only make money if you don't have Adblocker. Most people in the world should have Adblocker installed so, I wonder how much money do people make from putting videos up on Youtube anyway?
Still, Youtube is only one site, there are others who would be using Twitch.tv, Gametrailers used that for their stream.
Uh oh! Hope Mr. Happy can still do videos but that's not looking good for the in-game footage he would like to use. Looks like he needs a new plan for his show.
All fan art is considered copyright infringement and actions can be taken against the artist if the original owner chooses to do so. Copyright law gives the owner sole claim to ALL derivative works of the original. Any profit made by a derivative work without the permission of the owner is copyright infringement. Your videos may be unique but they are a derivative work. They are working with another persons product and creating their own, unique creation. I could see the issue if it was ALL the people who make videos to put on youtube, but just the ones who're only in it for the $? Yeah can't say I'm shedding any tears over here.
