So, with the login limitations. How catastrophic is tomorrow going to be?

I got my airship pass and mid cutscene the game boots me. Just to meet my old friend Error 1017.

Yeah this is another typical 1017 thread I admit. But how is this going to be fixed in a few hours? Get better servers SE because if this keeps up well into the official launch this is going to look VERY bad for you and extremely bad for ARR.

I actually want this game to succeed, but as of right now, you guys suck.

We'll know tomorrow, it could be fixed it could be not fixed. Also, most people who were going to buy this game already did. It's not like they've sunk millions into marketing, I don't see ads anywhere outside of Japan. Which also seems to tell us that Square Enix really didn't think anyone in NA was even going to play, which is why the servers are a mess.

Sci-Fi channel has a commercial for it but that's the only one I've seen on TV (then again, I don't watch much TV).

I've been thinking the same thing about them not expecting the popularity it got.

Saw a couple ones in a mall in Canada, but yeah, to answer your question, its not going to be fixed tomorrow. Then again, I expect pretty much everyone that was going to play it already bought it

Unless they double their Na/Eu bandwidth and capacity overnight, I see another flop of an mmo inc, then the game will run fine once everyone leaves because SE can't cope with the fact that there are 10x the NA/EU FF fans that there are in Japan, yet JP has only 4 full servers and 19 sitting there barely being used ( i know i'm on one of them while i wait for 1017 to go to a special kind of hell) and NA/EU has maybe 3 that are even taking characters atm. PRO planning SE....

No way can they concider leaving the limitation as it is right now .. If most EA user cant connect , think about everybody else who will buy this game tomorrow ..

Guys, this problem is NOT going to go away. SquareEnix needs to do four things to solve the server congestion issues. Two of which they have made extremely obvious they have no intention of doing, and the other two they seem rather disinclined towards as well.

First, remove the Error 1017 stating that the world is full. If the world is full, place the player in a queue and TELL HIM HOW DEEP IT IS. At this point players can either tab away from the game while they wait or choice to exit and go do something else.

Second, implement an "away from keyboard" auto-disconnect such as is present in EVERY OTHER MMO. If the server does not receive a hardware control input from the client (via keyboard or mouse) for a set period of time (15 minutes seems to be average across most games, but exact length doesn't matter as long as it exists) then the server disconnects from the client with a message along the lines of "You have been logged out due to inactivity"

Third, create new worlds for the NA/EU data center(s). As it stands all but 2 worlds were completely full last night, and with the actual launch tonight those two will fill up within hours, if not minutes. With the number of people receiving Error 1017 and the fact that 23 of the 25 worlds are full, I would probably consider adding at LEAST 10 new worlds.

Finally, implement a way for players to move existing characters over to less populated worlds. Ideally this should also allow for group movement for people who are playing with friends and for professional gaming guilds who got broken up by the insane login and character creation limitations. This also needs to be FREE. It only needs to be in place and free for a week or so for the populations to balance out.

If SquareEnix did those things their congestion issues SHOULD balance out to the normal level for a MMO launch, but I can't promise that it will, or even that SE will actually do what is needed.

Well, it's not like were beta testers. We've already paid for the game. Will they care any more for the people who are starting tomorrow? Nope.
