I've read in a couple places that SMN will be unlockable when the service starts. Asside from ACN 30, what other class must be leveled to unlock SMN? I played SMN for years in FFXI and I was so excited when I heard it was coming in FFXIV 2.0. Anyone have info?

The information has already been released. Its 30ACN/15THM for SMN and 30ACN/15CNJ for SCH. I dont have the link but yoshi himself told us this information. The other job requirements are speculation however as they have no been confirmed.

It is most likely that you will need Thaumaturge and conjurer leveled at least to lvl 15 to unlock SCH or SMN

I'm still waiting to see if SMN can use its pets to Off-tank in some dungeons. If so, I may have to level that when I'm not working on WAR.

Yeah, they can. And they're good at it. I tanked Copper Bell Mines boss, Tam-Tara, and Sastasha bosses with Super-Carby.

Also, I saw a post in another thread about how Carbuncle and Garuda will be useless as Ifrit will be the premier damage dealing pet. I think all the pets are situational. Carbuncle and Garuda are ranged attacking pets. Ifrit is a Melee Pet. There are going to be instances where Ranged > Melee.

So far I'm really enjoying Arcanist, both in its damage capabilities and in its versatility. It's going to be interesting to see how Scholar and Summoner play out. I'm excited.

I can vouch for this as well. I had a run with a bad tank and switched to my lemon flavor and he held his.

Carby is a decent tank at low levels, and although it's usually not a good practice to draw conclusions from low level experiences I'm wishful that SMN will not only be able to help off tank in certain occasions which will add that much more utility to SMN but be a strong solo class as a result of their pet's tanking capability (Titan at least). Simply the ability to be able to heal your pets in FFXIV vs. FFXI is a huge difference that lends to their survivability.
