Honestly the best fix for this is just to restart the server every couple of hours that will clear out a big amount of afkers.

Come on over and pre-order FFXIV: ARR and you will be able to gain early access to the game! (conditions apply for NA servers)
1. If you are a school-age kid with no job and school has not started, you can get early access
2. If you are an adult with no job living with his/her parents, or draining someone else of their cash, you can get early access
3. If you have more than one computer and leave your character logged in while at work, you can get early access
However, we regret to inform you that if you are a contributing member to society and have a job, the servers will be too full for you to get any early access play-time by the time you get off. We, however, thank you for sending us your money earlier than those that have to wait for release, even though there is no longer an incentive to do so.
We apologize for taking your money and not providing the service we promised to all that entered early access.
Have a nice day; and we hope to see you again soon![]()
You all need jobs, or stop taking vacations on the early start period of an MMO. Lesson learned for some I guess.
This may be a "bonus" for preordering but tomorrow is launch and I officially PAYED for my month of service with the game. I expect the bullcrap 1017 to be gone and actual queues in place. Server limitations at launch will decide if I continue to support this game (it is a beautiful game when I get to play it). If I can't play the game that I purchased then there is no point in paying for it.
its pretty obvious that if they haven't implemented such a simple feature, they simply have elected not to. our requests probably wont do much good. the irony in all of this is that errors are worse than queue lines.
you would have the same problem with the lobby server that you have with the world servers. It would become so overloaded with people lined up to enter that it would crash and burn.
The queue vs try again later message reminds me of this TED talks session with Rory Sutherland. Especially the waiting for a train part.
Also just an interesting video to watch while you wait to log on ^,^

Everything works as intended. Now go play something else
It makes no sense to me, they HAVE a queue system, WHY TURN IT OFF???
All it's doing is causing people to get super frustrated and constantly ping the servers over and over and over.
