"The more effort you put into something the greater the reward."

There is no Effort involved in this game. And in comparison to Working everyday in or towards a career or supporting a family, there is no effort involved in any Videogame, save maybe DDR.

Get Off your Highhorse, you are equating "effort" with "Time wasted", they are not the same. The gaming industry is starting to understand it.

We are still talking about an MMO. No matter how casual the MMO might get, no matter how much solo content there will be implemented that can be done in a matter of an hour...this is still an MMO and MMOs are designed to keep you busy for YEARS. So players who can invest like 1h a day or even less can't expect to get any kind of progress compared to someone who plays 3-5h a day. It's not working. If this would be an offline game that is made to keep you entertained for 1-2 weeks, it's all fine. But the only way to make MMOs "long lasting" is to implement time sinks. Sorry...I know it would be possible to implement stuff that makes them long lasting w/o forcing players to participate in time sinks, but the actual effort and money it would take to create such a game would be just over the top where a company would never invest so much into it to make it possible.

I can only say what I have said a few months ago. If you can't invest "reasonable" time into an MMO to see some kind of progress you're happy with, stop playing it. The game is not made for you and you should live with that. When I'm playing an FPS, although I hate FPS I don't tell the devs to make it an Action Adventure, just cause it's not "catered to me"...

This is a Final Fantasy game, but this is not an offline Final Fantasy game, so don't assume if you played all offline FFs, that you should be able to like this online FF as well and if not, it should be changed to where you like it, just cause it's name is on it. This is an MMO at first, Final Fantasy is just a name.

If I don't like a game, I don't play it, even if it's a Final Fantasy...(hell would freeze before I get myself FFXIII-2...) so people who want this game to change into an "offline" like FF when it comes to progress need to not play online games. They cater towards a different playerbase and they are made for different players, they are made for MMO players, not the standard RPG Fan, so don't come here and expect this to be a standard RPG.

That's an opinion, not a fact. Whatever is wasting time for you, might be the most precious time someone else spends...so YOU come down from your highhorse.

Luckily for us Yoshida understands what having a full time job/school is like. Since you no-lifers are the minority it's better for most of us if you adjust to normal human beings' needs and not the opposite.

This, Real Life has over 7 billion subscribers, most games can only hope to steal customers from its fanbase.

I'm working part time, got a gf and a life. As soon as I would be more obligated in my RL(working fulltime, getting maried, getting a baby etc) FFXIV would be the first thing I would check on my "what I'm gonna get rid off" list. If you're not able to do that, you have my pity.

Good for you. I rather have the game be RL compatible and keep playing it.

Sad thing that majority of those 7 billion are dumb and catering towards the majority...well...just look at the world, cause that's what politicians do...cater towards dumb people and you control the world cause the majority is dumb.

With this I don't mean the players demanding XIV to become more casual are dumb, with this I mean

"catering towards the majority =/= make things better"

Flame me for that all you want...it's sad, but it's true.

That's what offline games are made for...

It's kinda sad, cause of my posts here people think I'm like super hardcore and I want this game to be only playable by people who can play it for 5h+ a day and everybody else should see no progress at all.
Well check my posts on the leve stuff etc...you will see that I'm all for giving casual players more opportunities to progress.

The thing im debating here is...if you can't invest as much time into an MMO as another person, you can't expect to get the same out of it. Period. And if you are unable to accept that and rather see the game beingt changed than just quitting it and find something else that appeals to your playstyle, your RL and whatnot...THAT'S pretty hardcore, cause you are obviously unable to let go off this game...

I'm a casual right now, but that's probably because the game isn't all the much fun to me at the moment. However, I understand the plight of the hardcore players.

    It makes sense:
Hardcore, badass, insane to complete content that is defeated by anybody SHOULD warrant a vast reward. They defeated it because they put the time in to know exactly what works best, and have probably tried multiple times to defeat it and learn how.

Casuals, however, can't always get everyone together because of people's RL schedules all the time, so it takes a while. They probably COULD take the monster on, but it would take them a bit longer to get it down.

I ran a casual Limbus/Sky LS for 2-3 years. We were able to take on everything that Sky and Limbus provided, but not everyone had everything because we were only able to meet up twice a week. We were able to take out every one of the Gods and Ultima/Omega with less than an alliance (usually about 11-12 players) because our players, though casual, were skilled at what they did.

Casuals can do the same as the hardcore, but the hardcore will always get it first. You will never be able to get rid of this, because people do spend more time on games than others. It should be a 50/50. You should not cater to the casuals, because the casuals are barely able to spend much time on the game anyway.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

If Companies were in it to "Make things better" we wouldn't have video games to begin with, making your veiled insult pointless. If SE created a 8-bit rehash of Pong that attracted the attentions of millions , garnering as much success as their other popular series, damn certain they would make it. Your suggestions are just as base and self serving as those of us with jobs and lives, but this is not the Evercrack age anymore. And Thank the Twelve, because not only does that provide MMO developers with a wider, more varied audience to tangle with, there more of an image to the industry. People are growing up, they have lives to attend to. Why shouldn't a company seek to retain these loyal fans and gamers? To stay stringent and still design hair pulling events that require a night owl's sleep schedule would be a waste, it would limit the potential of the game and leave it behind in the shadows of MMO giants. SE doesn't want to be in the shadow, SE wants to cast the shadow, your opinion of it and the gaming majority be damned.
