Exactly the point Yoshi-P made in letter XII.
Done in one (page).Casual: People who realize that this and other games are just that - games. They typically are pursuing a college degree, or otherwise working a full time job. These people want to log on and just have some fun.
Hardcore: People who have no real life obligations, and therefore view the game as most casual players would real life. They think the game matters, and so want to be better than everyone in the virtual world because they are neckbeards in real life.
This too. Moreover, most "hardcore" have an idea of "hard work" that equates to "waiting in a spot for multiple hours, getting bored to death while doing nothing at all, while the mob spawns". Which is absolutely laughable.
You mean just like those who accuse us of wanting everything at level 1 when in reality we're just looking for a reasonable amount of progression in the time we do have to devote to the game? There are alot of ways to explain if you are a casual or hardcore MMO player, but flat out generalizing the Hardcore players as "Neckbeards" is flat out insulting.
It's always been about time available, and as some of us get older, we become more critical of how we spend our time. I used to be able to go on leveling binges in Lineage II and (eventually) FFXI back when I was still in school, but I don't have that kind of time anymore to devote to a game.
Either way, the casual crowd is not asking for everything handed to them. We're not asking for endgame items or excaliburs and murgleis' dropped into our inboxes.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Hardcore = accomplishment (gear) comes with hard work...
Casuals = i don't have time to play so gimme everything at level 1
I really hate casuals its cause of em MMO's get screwed since companies want to please everybody Wowcraft is a very good example.
That's totally not true, I'm casual and I don't want everything at rank1 or whatever. Casual are about not having Time sink activities that makes no sense whatsoever. We want challenges! hard fight! We can work hard on things we want but it will just takes longer!
Because its not fair that someone works 10 times harder then me and has more stuff
I shouldnt have to work for my gear
(please note im a hardcore, probly hardcore even by hardcore standards, but the above is literaly what i see)

I am sorry for this is an old post but.. really? You were the 1st one opposed to my idea of optional cap with greater reward for completion under cap with your hyprocitical argument saying that everyone should be entitled to the same gears regardless of the difficulty (see effort) you put in getting them... You may have changed your mind but it's completely the opposite of your comment above.
On the thread, I think that casuals and hardcore should be entitled to the same stuff but it should be acquired in the same fashion. To be a casual doesn't mean he doesn't know how to play and cannot do hard content. A causal just has less time to spend on a game than a hardcore, but like Yoshi-P saidThat is what I think describe a lot of people.Casual on the week nights, hardcore on the weekend
So yes casuals should be able to get the same stuff the hardcore players get, because they will get them the same way, might just take a casual player more time to get the good stuff.
MMOs weren't really about hardcore gamers, they were about people who wanted to nerd out. The people who feel entitled have almost no good nerd interests, they just spam. We need to put the nerd back into gaming, this isn't a joke.
Casuals paid for the game exactly as much as the hardcore. Like it or not.

it should dictate what you have access to, and that "what" is "everything".
Strawman argument. No one is asking for "everything at level 1"
Moreover, most "hardcore" have an idea of "hard work" that equates to "waiting in a spot for multiple hours, getting bored to death while doing nothing at all, while the mob spawns". Which is absolutely laughable.
