Sadly for me it wasn't every time that my computer came under heavy load. Sometimes it was due to watching a movie on my computer. I think what it boiled down to was the gpu/cpu power draw was too much draw for the PSU to output on a consistent basis.

There are ways to test for it, but they usually require voltage meters. I guess the easier thing would be to list your specs and list your PSU.

Another thing I heard that worked for some people was downclocking their cpu and/or gpu to reduce the power draw.

Meaning do you have a seperate sound card, keyboard, cd-rom/blue ray drives running, etc.

Try turning down your video card settings or if its an AMD leave it on stock settings and do not use AMD overdrive or the NVIDIA equivalent of that software.
I have an OCZ stealthXtreme2 700w, my GFX card requires 160W and I have a single HDD a single DvD drive, 4 case fans. That falls well below to capacity of this PSU when you add everything up. The other thing that's bugging me,is it's only FF it happens on. After reviewing all my cores they are not being pushed as much as I thought and my CPU is running at 94.5 watts, if you can see in my screenshot.

While I am considering the PSU as an issue, the question still remains, why just FF.

I was having this issue in Phase 4, not in Phase 3. except that my computer will restart and the Event Viewer is giving me a Critical Error 41, or Kernel Power Error. Im hoping its a PSU aswell, though I would be happy to hear suggestions from others

That's what I'm getting. I'm going to try and stress my system with other games to see if I can replicate it,but as I said this has only occurred in this game so I really don't know what's happening.

I've just read that if the PSU is failing to provide adequate power then you will see a very obvious performance hit.How true is this and does anyone else have any clues on the matter? My PSU is blowing cool so I know it's not busting a gut to get the watts out.

Easiest way to test your PSU is to disconnect it everything from the motherboard and pull it out....using a voltage meter/multi-meter and a paper clip test you can read the power that it is producing and you can compare it to the sticker that is on the side of your PSU to determine if it is under performing.

I really don't get it. I've just done an hours worth of stressing my hardware, OC'd my gfx card ( just for the test ) ran CPU at 100% and maxed out every setting I could. not a single shut down. The games I tested were GTA 4 max, Crysis max and 2 windows of WoW maxed and still didn't cause any problems. If my PSU was the problem I would have seen an indication of it during these tests,1 because I overclocked my card,2 I forced my cpu to 100%,3 turn all case fans to max,4 those games are CPU intensive aswell as GPU which would require more output from the PSU. Yet I got nothing,no shut down,no performance hit due to power levels. They ran just fine.

Surely if it was my PSU then maxing the load for 1 hour would have seen something. I understand 1 hour isn't all that long, but FF shut down my comp twice in a 15 minute window,so 1 hour should be more than enough.

Anything else I can try? I took my PC apart last night and inspected my mobo and PSU with a magnifying glass to check the capacitors and other signs of wear/damage. I see nothing. And as I said, it's only FF which is even more confusing!!
