What's the point on having 25 JP-EMPTY server and 25 for all the rest of the world?

I would like some dev explain to us, whenever you guys have time, at what point and what's the reason you decided to have 25 JP servers (which are pretty much empty) and the same amount, just another 25, for ALL the rest of the world (EU/NA).

That would be awesome guys, really, because it's the most disconcerting thing of all this.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's because of the tens of thousands of threads saying "If you don't change X, then I'm canceling my preorder". I guess the devs just assumed they were serious.

You have to understand that the Japanese are incredibly insular as a society, and once you understand that, you'll understand why no one on their development team thought twice about the insanity of having 25 servers for one small island's worth of people and another 25 servers for the rest of the world.

Its hilarious that you think the JP servers are empty (though they are during NA prime time), Tonberry and other JP servers have been locked since Saturday as well. The JP servers also have players from all of Asia, the middle east and Oceania, not just Japan.

I've been at three JP servers at different times and that's what i saw. In the context of what's the standard on server population these days... we can say that are pretty much deserted.

What it is hilarious it to compare cuantitatively the number of people playing this game from China, Korea, Japan, Australia and NZ to those playing from all the USA, Canada, South America and all Europe.

Only USA has probably nearly half of total players.

China can't play with rest of the world. They will have their own separate servers and the service ran by a chinese enterprise : that's also how Wow works. Because it's an online game, chinese minds might get corrupted by western foolish ideas like freedom of speech and those kinds of nonsense you know, so they need to protect their people. Their service will only starts next year as they also need to have an office to validate the content of the game like with any other game.
