Fishing Guide - ARR?

I really like fishing... I try a stot anytime I see a spot while on my way to a quest or town or waiting on friends... BUT I dont know what to do with the fish... any info or help u guys can suggest?

I'm trying to figure out what to do also. Without leveling cooking to see what fish are needed for good recipes it's hard to tell. People aren't high enough level to spend on good fish yet. But I'm trying to keep an eye in the market to see what sells ATM. My retainers are holding quite a few fish just in case.

Are baits classed? (freshwater, saltwater, etc)

Will copperfish for instance bite to any freshwater bait that is above the level of the fish?

and how does crossover bait work, such as floating minnow? does it work anywhere because its a lure?

Are any fish only biting to a specific bait?

Once you get gulleye passive skill you can return to the areas with the message "you sense something in the water"

Very nice database so far. I think bait is specific for some fish (e.g. I have only caught kelp with sea worms)

Fishing is now much easier than in FFXIV 1.0. Its much more relaxing now, certainly a improvement

To add onto this: do the same type of fish eat the same bait when found in different areas? For example: does a Merlthor Goby from Morby Bay eat the same bait as a Merlthor Goby from Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks? Also, are we to assume that some fish require bait that is a higher level than the fish itself? Do some even very low level fish require mooching?

THank you all for the replys, the Mooch things makes some sense although this means that you cannot complete fish logs until you acquire that skill. Guess time to keep leveling!

good chance im wrong but i can only seem to catch @Fullmoon Sardines@ at night, ofc its all in the name, is this true, and if so what other fish does it apply to?

and are there any other rules for catching certain fish, weather, etc?

Fullmoon Sardines can only be caught at night. I'm sure there are others like that, but I don't know of them yet.

I am currently working hard to get as much information into the site and I am also working on a guide. Currently I am working on maps and locating all the fishing locations. So far you can see an example by going to www.disciplesoftheland.com/maps.aspx?mid=18

I should say that this is not the final maps. I am going to have a page for each item with information on what bait can be used, mooching, locations etc. but it takes time both to compile the data but certainly also making the data base and the code to get it all working and displayed properly.

We also have a guide section (www.disciplesoftheland.com/guides.aspx) where guides can be submitted by users of the site. So far there is only a mining/logging guide but I am working on one for fishing as well. If you keep an eye on the site for the next couple of days you will see that we are working hard to get you as much information as possible. Enjoy
