    GTX 580

    Hello,

i just got me an SSD drive and a gtx580 (not overlocked... yet).
The SSD took care of 100% of the loading stutter issues. So that is nice.

The 580 in all HD /hardware hungry games runs fine (70-75 C, which is ok for nvidia)
at 100% load, Crysis with 16X and all put to the max. High frame rates, and ok noice.

When i start FFXIV, go out of uldah (other areas as well) my card heats up like CRAZY!!

it gets over 85C wtihout even doin anything or ppl/mobs around me.

    Please fix that issue.

    Thanks

Turn your General Drawing Quality down to 8 (standard) in the FFXIV config.

You won't notice the difference, and your card will run cooler (better framerate, too)

This is only speculation, but right now I believe the highest standard detail is achieved at 8. In the future (if and when SE implements DX11 support), the higher settings will do something, but right now all they do is cause your card to start screaming with no noticeable improvement in graphical detail.

Also, keep in mind that according to NVIDIA, 85-90C is still within acceptable operating temperatures.

thanks a lot Eekiki for the reply!!!
I am testing around atm, and since i had ati before im an nvidia noob.
But i think i found a solution, i kinda had too many extra options from nvidia inspector and such on. So the game had more filters on then you can notice i think i still have to keep in mind that it IS the best single gpu card but its still no god hehe.
The quality at 9 or 10 really is mostly a big performance hit, it DOES make the game even more detailed but some AA on the 8 quality and it looks just fine. And forcing a bit AO with NVIDIA (less peformance then the CP from FF) is more eye candy VS performance then the quality option imo.
But im still testing and tweaking around. especialy with the transparent textures and AA on it. Nvidia has more options then ati with that - which is cool but more testing needed.

    Cheers

Use MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision for the 580 and setup the software automatic fan control option to get a more aggressive fan profile, this will help a lot with your temps. My 580 never goes above 72°C in XIV ever.

since i came from ati 5870 overclocked, which kinda seems more compatible to ffxiv atm, i thought i can get a bit more eye candies on. I can only hope for further optimizations, since ffxiv performance increase is not much compared to most other games. Getting another cooling for that card soon though, since i hate loud ventilation ,
im gonna try to work on the fan a bit as well, thanks for the info!

I have the same problem with a GTX 570 phantom model; i agree with what other ppl said about how to keep heat low, but this isn't the real problem...

The issue is that the gpu looks overstressed for the config we all apply, and there is obviously something wrong in the integration of the filterings (looks to ambient occlusion, drawing quality, shadow details, AA over 8x...), in any other games we can keep em MUCH higher with much less gpu stress.

I give to SE all the time they need, but this IS an eye candy game, so it would be a shame just to get it half-right... a great graphic should be a point of force of FFXIV and it's something that once is done don't need big refining time like adding content to the game, and what we want (at least!) here is just what we already get from almost any other game 'til now

Anyway i think now they have bigger problems to take care about Japan situation, so i'm taking it easy, just hope to see them talk about this matter in the next updates! (or a forum reply!! )

If I'm not mistaken, FFXIV is the single most GPU intensive game on the market. But part of that is clearly due to some sort of lack of graphic optimization or efficient drivers.

    Update:

    - The card cooling wasnt very well done. In fact it didnt cool the gpu properly and was barely attacked to the gpu - badbad.
    - Bought me a Thermalright cooling solution.
Now i dont hear my card at all. OC to 900 and even with OC i have about -10 degrees. Without OC about 20-25 degrees less then i had with stock cooling. Worth it... at least if you have such an expensive gfx card.

Just too bad the game uses a shit load of transparent textures (that dont look nice if not supersampled lol) so that still
gives a hit to the 60 fps. One can only hope for some major graphic patches/improved bushes, less transparent textures...
not that performance hungry ambient occlusion as well

Im useing 8XSQ Setting from Nhancer. Was the best Performance vs EyeCandy option for me. Tested like 100 options.
