When I am accessing my retainer, I go the easy road and go to an inn and get yourself a room. There is a summoning bell right by the door where you want to leave. When putting the item into your retainer to sell on the markets, there is a market check button in the bottom right? of the user interface. That will allow you to check the prices of the item.
