So I just want to make sure I am understanding this correctly. You suffered from the same issues as described in my original post, but you are claiming once moving and re-sizing the HUD you can see everything just fine? So you're telling me that nothing at all is cut off on your screen? Like for instance when you get into the menu, then actions and traits, and then try to read the descriptions, none of that is cut off at all for you? When you reach the start screen (after login), nothing is cut off for you in the upper-left hand portion of your display? Is that what you're saying?
I have a 55" Panasonic Vierra TV. I can adjust the display size on my set by pressing Menu, going to Aspect Adjustments under "Picture", then changing the "Size" from "SIZE 1" to "SIZE 2". Your TV may or may not have this option.
Many TVs enlarge the image showing only 90~95% of the screen, cropping the edges of the screen off. This is called overscan (click for the wikipedia article for indepth explaination). Other games for the PS3 include a "size adjustment" option which presents the user and asks them to resize an onscreen "box" so that all four corners appear on screen.
