    A Contribution to Solutions

I'm a PS3 & PC player. I played on PS3 for a while then moved to PC, but on the same television. I read all of your solutions and none of them seemed to mention any form of DPI settings.

    Forewords:
I'm sure depending on the generation of your TV, it may or may not operate more like a large tablet PC (Smart TV), meaning that it more than likely has some kind of GPU-like device in it to display the UI.

    Background:
During my use of PC, I ran into an issue regarding the DPI-Scaling options where I had to disable them and run my screen in 720 in order to fix full-screen displays of certain games and applications, to make them work properly.

    Suggestion:
Look on your TV for any settings regarding DPI-Scaling and see if you can disable or enable it, or even modify it. Some UI's may allow you to literally SCALE what is viewed on the screen. For instance, you mention that you tried to mess around with the edges by moving the display itself, but this would lead the opposite edge to be cut-off more, and so on. DPI-Scaling is something some console games allow you to do upon initial play of the game.

Typically what you get is 4 arrows on each edge of the screen, and you use your + and - (vertically and horizontally, respectively) to stretch or unstretch the display to fit your display properly. Now because of this, I'd recommend performing the action in 720, although your console may automatically set the display to 720p since this is the limitation of the game, but just to be safe try it.

I hope this helps if you can find a setting like that, again look for references in your settings to the word "DPI-Scaling" or "Dots Per Inch", etc.

I had a dream last night that this was fixed with the 2.1 update. Sadly, it was not.

Considering it is not really an issue with the game but your TV why would 2.1 fix it?

I have another problem that is, I think, related to this.

After playing around with the resolution settings on both my PS3 and TV, I discovered that 16;9 + my TV's wide view setting show the largest visible area (unsure whether it now shows everything, but it definitely shows more than before). I adjusted the HUD to these new settings.

My problem however is that every single time I log in parts of the HUD move back inwards. The result is that several things start to overlap each other to the point of being unreadable, as they get pushed back to some sort of invisible boundary.

I have grown accustomed to re-arranging the HUD as soon as I log in, but it is somewhat annoying.

I'll try to take some screenshots to illustrate the problem.

The underlying issue is in the TV - it does not support full frame HD (but for film/broadcast it's not required to).
You will have similar issues on any HD equipment you connect (with my old Samsung TV, the HD cable box had some channels where the bottom part of the subtitles was cut off); and if you play a HD video on the PS3, it will also show less than the same clip shown on a PC monitor. If your TV has no option to switch to better behaviour (and it usually won't), there is no fix.

Given that plenty of these older not-quite-hd TVs are still out there, it does make sense for game developers to support them, either by avoiding putting anything relevant in 10% of the screen along the borders (in which case you just lose some viewable area, but can still see all text), or by supporting "scaling" of the entire screen. But good luck getting support from S/E for this before the PS4 version is released (which will likely suffer from the same problem -in fact since it will want to use 1080p, there may be more TVs with such issues (since some TVs do 720p just fine, but lose edges in 1080p)).

Add me to the list of people with this issue. All other games work fine, PS3 menus work fine, but as soon as I get to the login screen the outer edges are cropped by an inch. My tv is Vizio 720p, so it is not limited to a 1080p issue.

    Weird.

I had this issue for months. I fixed it by going into the TV settings and changing the aspect ratio (the thing that has options like cinema, game, panoramic, etc.) to 'full' or something like that. My TV is a cheap department store model, so it's nothing special. And my XMB fit before I changed the setting. There's just more of it now.

Given the solution, I can't see how this is a client-side problem.
