Your repeat performance and infamous arrogance as developers is going to cost you yet again!
Your current track record with your US/EU network infrastructure causing multiple login failures, server population failures, and outright game instability is beginning to disenfranchise loyal Final Fantasy fans and in some cases, entire guild groups, as evidenced by the multitude of frustrated posts on the forums.
To add some fuel to the fire, many of us logged onto the Japanese servers to check that out and it was an entirely different experience. No issues whatsoever. So I agree with the assessment of many players in the community that this is entirely a network issue, and the irony of this is that its a very simple scalability issue. Add more servers or upgrade existing ones, or both, the choice depends on the design of your network layer software, but one has to think with all the years of experience with FF XI you would have the people you need to consult with to fix the problem. Which brings up an interesting point. As a former FF XI player myself since the launch of that game, I can tell everyone from first hand experience that you had the EXACT same problems with that game that you are having with this game, even after you had let Japanese players into the game well ahead of American players or any other. Again, we find an example of SQUENIX favoritism through the server distribution disparity. Which is ridiculous behavior when you look at the sales numbers, which place roughly 80% of sales in the US and EU and only 20% in the rest of the world which I assume includes Japan, AND YET, Japan has almost the same exact number of servers as the US/EU combined. Really?!?!
Which brings up a good point about server/networking issues. You know how many copies of pre-orders you have sold, you also know how many 1.0 players that have activated their beta codes, so you know EXACTLY how many US/EU players you have and you know a MINIMUM of how many players you need to support. Good development always lends itself to worst case scenarios and ensuring you can address those. So the bush I am beating around is this: You know and you aren't doing enough to resolve the issue, and your developers are looking like total FOOLS yet again. One of your own executives was quoted as saying that another failure of this game could potentially be a financial crisis for Square Enix; you should start acting like it.
Your current track record so far is beginning to disenfranchise entire guild groups, yet again, with no real community outreach on your part other than these silly and meaningless, and formulaic statements like, "we're so sorry for 'x' but the situation has been 'relieved' now", which really means, things improved because people logged off or quit trying to login. And let me re-iterate, you are disenfranchising entire player groups yet again, the lifeblood of any online game/community. AGAIN! How does it seem reasonable to you that pre-established guilds cannot get their groups together on the same server so that they thrive, and in result your game survives.
Having said all that, many of the improvements to the game have been spectacular and exactly what the community wanted to see from the development team, but many of us will not get to enjoy it when you continue to 'turn off' our fellow guild mates and players throughout our community with an apparent lack of commitment to your own word.
In conclusion. When the original incantation of Final Fantasy XIV failed as it did, after some time, you as a company admitted your failure. Having admitted your failure to the community you made a vow to the fans, the players, to us. From what I understand of Japanese culture this requires you to keep your word and do whatever is required to uphold your honor. I look forward to witnessing you, as a team, doing so.
Sincerely,
Harrow Limbo
