I Just think that SE is not the BEST at these things, but EVERY mmo has launch problems. Rest assured that SE is working diligently on getting the NA/EU servers running smoothly. They are making the necessary adjustments. There are several minds all over the world working on these things. Not just in Japan. FFXI was an amazing game, and if you all have played ARR then you know it is awesome. Give SE the benefit of the doubt. Further more, it is probably still going to have issues at official launch. That is just the nature of the beast. I am sure there is a certain amount of predictability, and a certain amount of unpredictability when you are booting up a game that hundreds of thousands of people are all trying to log into at the same time. Allow them time to smooth it out. Once people move on from the starting areas, and there is a manageable number of incoming characters things will get better. Don't think for a second that there aren't 100's nay 1000's of people buzzing around trying to make it right so that you can play the beautiful game they made. This game that took three years of redevelopment, and has something to prove. I have no doubt they are working really hard.
