Bad Press From Early Access Starting.

I think what we need to do is agree that the game content is solid but server issues are blocking our sights to that. We all just have to come at this with cool heads and just relax a little bit. Once the server issues get resolved we'll all be happy to play a fairly solid game!

Server issues aside, the game runs surprisingly well on my PC. I can't enter the main city in Neverwinter (Protector's Enclave) without crashing. Loading screens in GW2 also tend to crash the game for me. The only "crashes" I've gotten in FFXIV so far is when the servers go down for maintenance and I lose connection. It's a stable game in general. I'm also finding it a lot more fun than version 1.0, and am quite pleased with the available content and features. If I could actually log in and play, I would be a very happy customer.

Firstly, Kotaku hates everything, likes nothing. So even the slightest issue with this game, would of had them badmouthing it regardless. And Joystiq, aka wowinsider, is one of the biggest blizzard fanbois on the internet, so they tend to be obligated to badmouth blizzard's competitors. So if that is really the extent of the bad publicity, then I think the game will be just fine. Honestly every MMO, WoW included, had some pretty rough launches. This game technically isn't out yet. It is just early access. And I am glad they are getting these issues worked on before launch day. They also seem to be working a lot faster than most MMO companies as well. Just need patience.

Although it is Kotaku, they aren't wrong.

It was a huge mistake for them to only have a 3 day open beta period. They haven't seen this kind of server load before, so I'm sure this has been an eye-opening experience for them.

If they wanted to generate some good will, they'd give people a couple of free days to make up for the trouble and generate some good press by showing that they take care of their customers.

It doesn't matter if it is Kotaku hating on the game due to the issues or anything else. A lot of people will be looking for ARR to bomb and to bomb hard. The gaming press at large is going to jump on them for any issues they have, technical or otherwise. The problem is that this is the relaunch of a failed mmorpg that was universally panned on release.

I appreciate that they are working their butts off to fix it and that they've been doing such a good job keeping people up to date on the situation (Seriously, Kudos for this.. ), but I've been through so many mmo launches that I've learned that these kinds of things happen and the best thing I can do is be patient while they fix it. Unfortunately, there are many who don't share that outlook and these kinds of issues will only hurt the game in the eyes of those people.

This is what scares me. I want this game to succeed so damn bad but these server issues(restricting logins because you don't have the hardware to support more players? Really SE? Really!?! Dumbest idea ever.) This news will spread to other game sites and FF14s already huge fail will scare away any potential buyers of this new and amazing version, all because they screwed up population anticipation (which they should know the exact number of btw by EA key claims but silly me. If this problem (hardware problems are huge) isn't fixed fast. I don't see a future for this game and that deeply saddens me.

Yes, they are likely right in their assessment of the server issues (I still refuse to read it.). But being right here and there does not make them a good or reputable source of information.

Now, we all know the game is having issues, and once other gaming news outlets start reporting in on them, I'll take them seriously. As it stands, Kotaku is going to look even more like fools if this current maintenance fixes the issues.

"Maintenance" is pretty much just restarting the servers so it boots everyone, especially all the afks taking up spots.

Just because a poor source of journalism happens to report one or two stories accurately from time to time does not suddenly make them a reputable source. It would be wrong of me to tear into Kotaku when they're wrong, then suddenly bow to them when they're right as if they never erred. They are still no better than they were before reporting on this article.
