    Summoner...mind?

    I know summoner's main stat is int, but I was wondering if, because of the way the materia system works, stacking mind alongside it would be a terrible idea so that my cures/physicks would be somewhat useful incase the healer needs help. I'm trying to come as close to the smn/whm combo I had in ffxi as possible x..x it was pretty fun that way, so if I can get it close I'm going to at least try.

    I'm going to split my Int/Mind 50/50 as best as I can and just use materia to tilt the scales the way I need them. Though I'm leaning towards Summoner more.

    Yah that's about what I was going to do as well...just not sure if the cures are even going to be worth the mind put in for it (and stoneskin I suppose). From what I've seen you can max about 3~ stats, so I'll probably go for a split between spell speed and piety, or crit and piety (assuming pet gains my crit chance) with a bit of spell speed but it's hard to tell until endgame.

    plz don't split them up.. if u know ur goin to be smn.. stack INT & determination .. & if SCH is ur likin pure into INT.. u ask why.. well.. unlike SMN .. SCH will have access to "Clerk Stance".. which makes since SCh needs mind but it will need the INT so theres Nukes & DoT's will be worth casting... think about it before u make tht mistake.

    I plan on going SMN (reminds me of the good old days of XI), it's interesting they didn't make it a hybrid healer in this game...that's one of it's main roles in XI.

    Also, what exactly is materia in this game and how do you use/get it?

    Pretty sure you get it from breaking down leveled up gear (so to speak). I think there are other ways as well. I'd be able to tell you if I could have actually gotten into the game these past two weekends.

    Materia is basically things you slot into your gear that have + to certain stats, there are 5 tiers the top tier having +10 to each stat, and you get materia by taking an item and using it until it's soulbinded (or whatever it's called) at 100% then you can convert it into materia. I think it gives you materia based on what stats it has on it already? Something like that...

    Anyways, the thing about materia is you can't just make every slot +int or +mind or whatever, each piece of gear has a max amount of + to a stat that it can give, therefor if you are going full dps as a smn you would probably cap out determination/int/crit for each piece by putting 1~2 +10 for each of those.
    It gets a bit complicated because you can have up to 5 materia slots per item and if your item has less than 5 available there's a weird process you go through to forcefully put a slot on it.

    (continued) Information could be wrong though I grabbed it off of google when I was searching for how it worked, it was information from legacy lv50's who played around with it in p3 I believe.

    Really though there isn't just "one" build for every job in the game, it's silly to say that in a game that allows you to allocate stats how you want and clearly wants you to experiment if the materia system is the way it was in p3.

    I'm probably going to end up stacking int/mind/determination and maybe some piety or crit if I can, I'm sure there will be soft caps that people will reach but we'll see.

    I'm just curious to see if this setup works though....btw cleric stance reduces your healing with sch by 20%...just a heads up.

    Thanks, Iwazaru! I remember reading about it now...still a bit confusing until I see it for myself, but I like the concept!

    Yeah do NOT go pure INT if you're going SCH that's just a really bad move, -20% cures {Thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass}
    At lv50, I believe we have 30 pts to allocate, so 15 int/15 mnd should be fine for those who want to play both SMN and SCH and not have to pay 10k GC seals when changing jobs. That 15 INT/MND you'd be missing will be negligible in the grand scheme of things.
