The waiting game™

Ok, as a veteran player of MMO's from FFXI to current. I have beta tested many MMO's and experienced lots of launches. Most times, I even take vacation time to play for a week of the start of a game.

So, I am familiar with things not being perfect from the start and expect interruptions/errors/bugs/queues etc..

This is my problem with FFXIV.. After all day Saturday, after camping server all last night, and checking back in all day today I still don't even have my character made on the server of my choice-- It's not errors, not bugs.. nothing is holding me back but the character creation lock. (And no, I'm not playing on another server without my friends nor will I pay to transfer later. It's general principle.)

I can almost of understand the concept of these "locks" when the server is at total capacity during prime time to direct the population... but during the off-time too?!?

SE, please let us make our characters on servers with friends before the rush of the 27th.

its sad how so many people cant even play the game because of server issues....... you would figure that with how much beta time they had, they would get shit right.... now they will probably lose a hell of a lot of money because people are unhappy of how things are going..... now what happens when the official launch comes and nobody is able to play it because they don't have enough servers.......... THEY FAIL AND LOSE MONEY

I pretty much agree with everything you say...I got a friend who can't join my server, I was lucky to get on my server during beta 4 only hours before they closed it down (and never reopened it since from what I can tell). I think more than anything, they're trying to find the sweet spot of their current servers (i.e. how many characters it can handle, how much of a waitlist it can handle, etc.).

So many people are starting to petition for free character transfers (either limited time or 1 per character), and I second this. Honestly, if they announced this RIGHT NOW, I think a lot of people would just create their characters on a server they know is working and play without friends for a few days.

And there shouldn't be much of a rush on the 27th, from what I've been hearing, the majority of players who will be playing are part of early access, very few 1.0 non legacy coming to play, I'd think.

So I wake up this morning expecting to play a little before work and get errors saying I can't log in, so I go to work now it's 9hrs later and I now get a different error (1017). I know this stuff is usually how mmo's work the first little bit to iron out servers, but still it's frustrating when I have only certain hours to play on the weekends and the week days I work a lot. They had 4 betas, including a 3 day open beta where these errors where present then. This should be fixed
