But, in all seriousness, whether materia is a good system or not, don't you think it's a bit tacky to bring it over when materia is not exactly a hugely recurring theme in final fantasy games? Shouldn't we leave it in the past.

They could call it a whole myriad of other things other than materia. We should be farming them some imagination, not materia.

Why not start a new Materia tradition? The underlying system itself sounds like it will be a great addition. The name should not be all that important. Besides, with every other Final Fantasy staple there was always the point where they decided to bring it back a second time. No one complained the when Moogles appeared in FFV after being in FF3....

Haha, I meant in terms of mainstream appeal, the direction they took is their own fault.
FF13 was one of the worst in the series for me, but it still made them a load of money so can't be all that bad.

And then find my excalibur sword with the most slot available so I can have my Ultima materia (along with double attack materia, KoTR, counterattack, reraise mateira etc etc) in it and destroy all the mobs in range of my apocalyptic explosion <3

They can call it whatever they want, it's still colored gems that have some property going into slots of weapons and armor. Why not call it something people are familiar with and have attached good associations to?
