Pretty much the game allows it, but the players set the rules. Do you honestly think that everything SE intended went the way they thought it would in FFXI?

In fact, its already happening in FFXIV. You cant get into a good Leve-link party unless you have certain leves.

Just make it to where people cannot get into your dungeon party unless they have beneficial gear.

That is an INFERIOR design compared to a system that doesn't encourage gimp in the first place. I wouldn't have to be a dick if the game didn't reward gimp.

Don't even give people excuses to wear poor gear to performance events, and no one will try to wear trash out to sp in, and no one will have to tell people trying to wear trash out to sp in to wear their good gear. This doesn't need to be a situation, and SE is forcing the issue needlessly.

I have to disagree, the game should do as little as possible to limit the choices the player has. The player then should be allowed to make the choices they want, with the choices they make having consequences.
