Easy now, please give it a chance I just pointed out that--
Nevermind forming "forum" with this mentality. I'm afraid it'll be for the better if we just agree to disagree and just let things develop and see what actually happens.
I'm not sure where Peregrine got the idea that crafters are just rapping ppl and stealing all thier Gilz! but as a player with 50wvr, 50arm, 48lw, 36alc, 36gold I dont' charge anyone for anything. I have given out free synths for months now. Usually I use my own mats if someone needs something since the wards charge 10k for silly things like buff straps. I give everyone in my ls free HQ gear all the time.
Don't forget a true crafter who didn't spend the first 3 months doing regional leve's didn't make:
5-resets per week
150k/reset
750k/week
------------
Then shards: my friend didn't do any crafts and only lvl'd jobs on coblyn's and sold shards only. He had 50M by X-mass. I would not exactly call 50M in 3-4 months getting raped by the crafters.
I do agree crafters play too large a role in FFXIV already but as soon as we get any decent endgame/NM type gear the whole balance of power should even out.
Hi Bayohne,Got some new tidbits regarding the upcoming Materia system implementation to share with you straight from the dev. team!
By using the armor and weapons that you equip yourself with, you will generate "attachment points"* and when your attachment points reach 100% you will be able to convert that weapon or armor into "materia."
Just wanted to check with you regarding the translation and wording: So with these terms - "armor" and "weapons" - it seems that Tools (for Disciples of the Hand and Land) will *not* be able to be made into Materia, nor have any Materia attached to them?
It's combat-only for now?
Thanks.
I wonder if Materia will have HQ too.

Yeah they said materia had a chance to be of higher quality. Maybe not +1, but either better stats or better type of stat for a rarer result.
I'm still disappointed that you have to wear the gear you're trying to turn into materia. It encourages people to wear poor gear out to their activities, which is counter-matsui's primary goal to reward wholehearted play where people who aren't really focussing or trying struggle.
I want a system where someone wearing poor gear struggles to perform, and ultimately that's what materiagrind gear will be--the cheapest on the market that provides the desired materia. However, I don't want a system where wearing that poor gear is encouraged.
Thus it appears that SE may be forcing me to make a "No materia gear" policy in performance-driven parties, and a lot of scrubs are going to want to haul their gimp gear to wear.
People shouldn't bring their trial weapons to sp on, but instead of saying "trial weapons are for skillup parties on your own time." Why not just not do trial weapon crap in the first place? Don't even make us wear the bad gear we'll be turning into materia.
Shortest form: benefits to wearing bad gear should never exist.

Why would wearing poor gear be encouraged if you're going to get shit materia from it?
Because you're not going to get **** materia from a NQ jade crook, but it's still a NQ jade crook.
You can buy a trash endgame set of gear for 100k because people spam it to make HQ's. That's the garbage people are going to be showing up to party in. They're not going to be turning even +1 gear into materia, and +1 gear's not going to make OMGBBQ materia either.
People will show up looking like stock generic players to things where performance matters, and this system gives them even more of an excuse to.
Then you make it abundantly clear that they need to be up to spec, or they don't get to party. The game can't do everything for you all the time.
Pretty much the game allows it, but the players set the rules. Do you honestly think that everything SE intended went the way they thought it would in FFXI?
In fact, its already happening in FFXIV. You cant get into a good Leve-link party unless you have certain leves.
Just make it to where people cannot get into your dungeon party unless they have beneficial gear.
That is an INFERIOR design compared to a system that doesn't encourage gimp in the first place. I wouldn't have to be a dick if the game didn't reward gimp.Pretty much the game allows it, but the players set the rules. Don't even give people excuses to wear poor gear to performance events, and no one will try to wear trash out to sp in, and no one will have to tell people trying to wear trash out to sp in to wear their good gear. This doesn't need to be a situation, and SE is forcing the issue needlessly.
