I collect armor sets in MMOs. I have banks full of them. I would never want to destroy them.
I dont think anyone would have an unfair advantage if they do it this way cause think about this lets say when they add more open world Nm's and they drop this great unsellable sword but it could be turned into some kind of awesome materia people would farm the shit out of that nm and flood the market with the best materia.

One of the more recent, and absolutely COOLEST feature in FFXI were the new set of Weapon's and the pixy you traded, fought an NM, and added stat points.

Throw that concept out, that's not my point of what was cool, what was cool was my unique weapon, that had stats that to me was amazing especially since some stats were really uncommon and it made it that much sweeter when you were given the option.

I roughly understand this system and it sounds promising. Stuff like this opens doors for customization, when you own something unique, it's pretty great.

Do we know if Materia will allow use to learn or equip abilities or traits?

Right now, I see that it will have stat effects, which is nice, but it would be interesting if some rare forms of materia came with traits or abilities attached as well.

    Just a thought/question.

I have a feeling Unique and Untradable equipment wont be able to turn into materia. Only Crafted Equipment will be.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Right now it most likely will only give Stats, Attributes, Traits, and hidden bonuses.

Functionally it wouldn't make sense for r/e/re gear to be converted to materia, because that would counterattack the reason the devs made it r/e/re in the first place, which was to get people who already have it OUT of the queue to get the item.

Nothing changed about leaping lizzy for 5 years and it was camped to hell. Yet change one little sign on the equipment and within a half year Leaping Lizzy roams free. Nothing about the supply or demand of leaping boots changed...except the people who were allowed to squat it and monopolize its distribution.

If you make seer's cowl materia'able and have it turn into a significant materia...it will be camped so hard Russians will show up at your door and break your knees if you so much as try to enter Mun Tuy.

That is a creative and awesome idea!

By using the armor and weapons that you equip yourself with, you will generate "attachment points"* and when your attachment points reach 100% you will be able to convert that weapon or armor into "materia."

[QUOTE=Bayohne;162041]Got some new tidbits regarding the upcoming Materia system implementation to share with you straight from the dev. team!

We're looking forward to hearing feedback on this!

I think people are not reading this post and understanding it and i also think that the wording is not correct. Why do people keep thinking u craft materia when it states that u use gear accumulate points then convert those points into materia THEN YOU GET A CRAFTER TO ATTACH IT TO GEAR. On the otherhand the part about coverting the gear/points into materia is not concise enough ;is it that u convert gear into materia after u accumulate enough points?! ; do you lose your gear entirely at the expense of gaining materia?! or do u just lose the accumulated points and gain a materia item in inventory. If you lose your gear entirely then i wonder what the reasoning skills of the development team is rofl.

BAYOHNE you need to answer this lol.

he did, maybe he didnt fix the description that well, you convert your gear into materia after reaching full attachment, and thus lose your gear entirely.

It clearly says that after you reach 100% affection/affinity/whatever you can convert your gear into materia, then socket that materia into other pieces of gear.

As YoshiP stated when he first gave word about the Materia system, one of the aims is to stimulate the economy. Having gear be consumed would help to reduce the excess amount of items we have in circulation.
