I like that they are using the name Materia as an example for the system but at the same time if they want to use that name then I hope they make sure it’s similar to FFVII and not some broken new system :P

My idea would be similar to FFVIIs the only downside being you wouldn't let the materia give skills or abilities, only stats, traits, and bonuses.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

I just hope that Astral and Umbral are on these things. LISTEN TO THIS DEV, LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN. (sorry) As of now THM have no clear way of increasing astral or umbral affinity. 80% of THM spells are umbral, so for a THM to be as great as they want stacking umbral affinity would make sense. They could easily do that with this new materia system ^^
Shut up, Navi. :PI just hope that Astral and Umbral are on these things. LISTEN TO THIS DEV, LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN. LOL, sorry I actually did laugh out loud, flash backs to ocarina of time as a kid. N64, good times.
or and to Cairdeas I thought that too (earth, ice, water = umbral, fire, wind, lighting=astral for those who don't know), recently people have been saying all elements have umbral and astral qualities :/ so I'm not sure who to believe until SE tells us for sure, which may be never, so 2nd best I'll take some data on it, you know someone somewhere has a excel doc about it.

I thought Raising the three elements that aligned with Umbral on the Elemental Wheel raised Umbral.

Materia should be inter-changeable with any weapon/armor at anytime, so your goal in the game is to collect the best materia for your weapons/armor and find the best mixes of those materia, Although materia shouldn't be an inventory slot, but kept in its own materia items, and duplicates cannot be gotten, or traded. This makes you earn these materia and gather them and build your own weapons/armor.
Each ranked item should have at least 1 materia fitting and who knows the limit based on the future of the game, but maybe 1 materia can be inserted per 10 optimal ranks. This allows for more combination's to get different results. This does open the door for spells, abilities, and many other items just by combination's or materia and/or a materia itself. I do think this would give more strategy to the game and promote collecting of materia and building your own style of play.
sounds like another WoW-clone-thingy. it's Wow's GEM system.
