Right now it most likely will only give Stats, Attributes, Traits, and hidden bonuses.Do we know if Materia will allow use to learn or equip abilities or traits?
Right now, I see that it will have stat effects, which is nice, but it would be interesting if some rare forms of materia came with traits or abilities attached as well.
Just a thought/question.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Thank you for the excellent clarification!
It still leaves me wondering whether "weapons" is also literal, or whether it includes tools. In other words, is this system only for the combat classes, or do crafters and gatherers create materia as well?
edit: I understand that crafters attach materia, and that gatherers harvest the catalyst that allows the materia to be attached. My reference to "this system" was referring to the system of creating materia, not the entire materia system.

I can't really point you to the exact statement but I'm fairly sure it was mentioned that only DoW and DoM classes are responsible for the creation of materia. I could be wrong but as far as I understand it that's the way it'll work.Thank you for the excellent clarification!

Also thanks for the clarification and that kind of addresses the issues I mentioned in my last post. I still would love to see a lot of variety amongst the materia to avoid people just spitting out tons of armor X to get materia Y that gives the best stat sets. Adding in several factors to make crafting materia almost an art would be wonderful imo.

I don't know, I think its lame that you have to convert the gear. People work hard to get their gear, and what happens when we are all decked out in the job/class specific gear we are expecting? Hopefully they make those quests repeatable... and hope they are not like AF in ffxi...
Now I will have to go buy a bunch of NQ gear to run around in and hope for good materia to augment my HQ gear which I don't want to lose. I know its a good time sink, but its backwards... at least it sounds backwards, we will see how it works.
I wouldn't say that, sounds to me like there will be different weapons and gear sets much like the "Trial weapons" in FFXI and each piece will be trained for a particular type of materia.I don't know, I think its lame that you have to convert the gear. Well as soon as I posted, they clarify. Ok so no FFIX but I can see Materia Weapons or Armor like STR Dagger = STR+1 Materia or HQ STR+2 Materia. Something like that.
Yeah it is a design flaw that would need addressed. The system would be counter-Matsui's battle emphasis to rewardd effort and innovations if it rewarded people for wearing NQ verions of gear they're farming materia with instead of the gear they plan on putting that materia into.I don't know, I think its lame that you have to convert the gear. I want to see where the difference between a Jade Crook+3 and a Jade crook actually matters, but if I want Jade Crook materia for my Jade Crook+3 I'd never end up using my Jade Crook+3 for anything I did, or I'd have to go mindlessly attach staves to farm materia. Boring.
Jobs that have also already hit 50 will be hard-pressed to get attached to gear without big content updates. I repair my jade crook and mage armor about once a month now.
Some potential solutions:
Maybe pick the weapon you're attaching to, and not need to be on that job to be doing it? So I could buy four or five Jade Crooks and chew on them, while still using my Jade Crook+3 for everything I do on CON. Or I could chew on Jade crooks while I"m on lancer--it would't necessarily have to be a lance.
A system where you're encouraged to equip consumables is a system that's counter-Final Fantasy and counter Matsui's battle overhaul changes, and I don't want to see a situation where players are forced to either perform well or materia-get. Certain players will demand performance, certain players will demand materia-get, and the two will hate each other and make fun of each other. It'd be NQ elemental staves all over again.
Short version: It might be best to be able to choose what primary you are attaching to , independent of the weapon you're actually using.

I like this idea, not only does it give ways to upgrade our gear but it removes excess raw materials from the market as well as giving us something to spend gil on.
Can you please explain what you mean by "remove excess raw material" maybe I'm not understanding the system properly.
Armor and Weapons are Lost in the creation of Materia. Crafters Use Raw Materials to rebuild stock of those lost.
Also has anyone considered that a Peice of Equipment with materia would gain AP as well and that Materia's stats could be included into the materia crafted out of it?
