    Yeah stick with the materia name. Also, this really does sound like a cool take on the whole materia system in general. Not only will it reduce people having a load of inventory, but if you find a weapon you cant use/dont need anymore, you can choose to sell it for gil...or just create materia to become stronger.

    It should give crafters a reason to start making low rank items again too lol. Hopefully it wont be as insanely complicated as the evolith system from XI -_-

    I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders.     This is great news. I love the idea of the whole post, but the last part really got me.

    High risk of failure, but I'll bet the reward would be wonderful! It's awesome.

    Dangerous move to make the rate-limiting step of the process something a shard bot can do (wear out a weapon with use then try to hq materia from it). Still, sounds reasonable.

    Along the same lines, will it be the case where people will be using weapons and wearing armor just for creating Materia, instead of using the best equipment/weapons available?

    Sounds like a time sink, which may or may not be a good thing.

    Once again, this really will depend on SE executes and implements this.

    Oy yeah. Unless they level-cap the gear and better gear yields better materia. That will incentivize wearing the best gear, and enforce wearing the APPROPRIATE gear.

    Unfortunately that will incentivize destroying the best gear. So...even less of a utility in making midlevel weapons which are just...a wasteland of supply right now. Then you have to start thinking about materia ranks, R30 materia goes in R30 weapons, made from R30 weapons, R50 materia is from R50 weapons that go into R50 weapons.

    It's gonna be a big design counter-design chain reaction to make it all work well. It's not just a simple set it and mark that check box off (like guild tasks), or it'll be lolmateria.

    I second the idea of having low level materia drop from normal enemies and strong materia from NMs, Bosses, and chests in dungeons.

    However, now you guys HAVE to implement a Materia Eater NM.
