On the otherhand the part about coverting the gear/points into materia is not concise enough ;is it that u convert gear into materia after u accumulate enough points?! ; do you lose your gear entirely at the expense of gaining materia?! or do u just lose the accumulated points and gain a materia item in inventory. If you lose your gear entirely then i wonder what the reasoning skills of the development team is rofl.

BAYOHNE you need to answer this lol.
It clearly says that after you reach 100% affection/affinity/whatever you can convert your gear into materia, then socket that materia into other pieces of gear.

As YoshiP stated when he first gave word about the Materia system, one of the aims is to stimulate the economy. Having gear be consumed would help to reduce the excess amount of items we have in circulation.

Well it may very well increase the number of items in circulation. It's that they're actually circulating that is the main goal.

Whatever the case, they're designing it to fulfill the goal of economic stimulation. Whether or not that goal occurs in reality, however, remains to be seen. We probably won't know until they implement in the patch and we see wide-scale use.

By using the armor and weapons that you equip yourself with, you will generate "attachment points"* and when your attachment points reach 100% you will be able to convert that weapon or armor into "materia."
    Hi Bayohne,

Just wanted to check with you regarding the translation and wording: So with these terms - "armor" and "weapons" - it seems that Tools (for Disciples of the Hand and Land) will *not* be able to be made into Materia, nor have any Materia attached to them?

    It's combat-only for now?

    Thanks.

Should be interesting to see if this helps to reduce the effects of item glut.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

I concur. You want more Final Fantasy? Go for the big money.

Even Yoshi P agrees with me.

Well it looks like its official now what with "materia conversion" and all...I would assume anyway. System sounds cool, I hope it pans out well...this'll give people incentive to hang onto armor for extended periods and use the armor on multiple classes probably.

I am curious to know which crafting class will be creating Materia. I hope it is Alch.. only because I spent alot of time doing Alch so i am biased in hopes of having a strong head start with this new feature I can't wait, and honestly think that this feature will push me back into playing the game. Thank you for the good news Bayohne!!

seems u need to read the post again materia is not crafted its gained by using gear .... accumulating points on gear then converting it. then a crafting job attaches it to gear w/ a chance of nq or hq added effects and it even hints at an even more powerful added effect chance at the expense of possibly losing your materia if it fails.
