Another thing is that high level players are going to rape these mid ranged NM's just because they can, so good luck if your mid ranged and want a challenge.

That's assuming there's anything worthwhile for a high level player to get from the midrange NMs.

You always get those that will kill it because they think its makes them look leet "look I'm fighting this NM all by myself", plus whatever they drop can be sold no doubt, first few days especially prices will be high and the item will be in high demand.

This has nothing to do with difficulty. Difficulty plays absolutely no factor if the NM is actually killable (AV). If an LS can kill something once then they're capable of killing it over and over and over. The only factor making it's drop rarer is the limitations placed on how often it can be killed.
Thats not the only factor, drop rate is a massive factor also.

You can do BCNM in FF11 as many times as you have orbs but the drop rate will always be the main factor in whether you get the item you want or not.

Everyone had an O hat. It wasn't anything special. While I agree the system is a good one, it doesn't make the drop rare.
Everyone did have an O-hat, it didn't make the item any less useful, I don't understand why people have the need to parade around with rare items on, does it really make you feel that much better ?

Its been interesting reading this thread. There are a lot of good points brought up from all sides. But one thing I keep thinking about is that fact that this is a community based game and not a PvP game. I will get into what I believe that should mean to us in a moment. Whether a NM spawn is 8 hours or 24 hours or during certain weather or whatever the circumstance is, I don't think that really matters to much as long as everyone at least has a chance at it. I agree with those that say it should be more about difficulty rather than time spent spawn camping. Luckily on my server LS's are very respectful of other LS's when it comes to NM fights.

I come from various MMO's such as Lineage II, Lotro, Aion, etc. where there were bosses such as in L2 that spawned once a week like Baum and others that sometimes would spawn at 3 or 4 in the morning at times and myself and a great friend took turns waiting up all night for it to spawn and then would call the other to wake them up to participate in killing the raid boss to get quest credit or whatever we were after. I don't really miss that aspect of it, but I admit that it was fun and exciting at the same time even though I was dead tired the next day. But I also appreciate the frequency of the NM spawns in FFXIV since at almost any given time you can get a group together and go find a NM and have some fun taking it down. And at Rank 50 there isn't much else to do in the current state of the game other than taking down NM's.

Getting back to the Community based game as opposed to a PvP game, this is what I think that should mean to us:

    - We should be joyful rather than disappointed when someone gets a drop they need from an NM. It means when we are fighting side by side they will hit harder, take less damage, be stronger to help "you" accomplish whatever you are after.

    - Wishing they did not have that gear just because you want to be rare and the only special one that has an item is a bit selfish and elitist. What does it benefit you to have better gear than the person fighting by your side? There is no benefit. I'm not saying it should be easy to get an item, but if your reason to make something harder to acquire is because you don't want that person next to you to have that same item, in a community based game that has no aspect of PvP that kind of mentality make zero sense.

    - In a PvP game then yes, Clans, Guilds, LS's etc, have every benefit in the world to do whatever they can to suppress others from acquiring the better gear so that they can have an edge over those other clans, etc. in PvP. In that scenario it is beneficial to have better gear. In FFXIV however, that benefit is not present as there is no PvP.

I am all for NM that are very challenging and for dungeon raids that require a few hours (or even few evenings) to complete; for more challenging content. But not for the sake of being special, but for the sake of having fun with my LS and friends by engaging in challenging content where I truly want others to get that better gear since in FFXIV there is nothing but benefit to everyone for people to get that gear. It hinders us not one iota if someone else has the same or better gear than us. If there was PvP it would be different.

I'm losing my train of thought so I will end here, I hope I didn't jumble things up too much.
