This does seem like a good solution for most people but I'm afraid to try it since it says they can only do this one time. My problem is that when I canceled my first preorder of FFXIV, I ended up some how creating another service account with my new up-to-date preorder. Thing is though, I can still log into characters from my first preorder unlike other people but maybe that will change since I did all of this today (August 25, 2013). Bookmarking your link right now in case that does happen.
