Pretty much this. The only real NM that's a pain is Great Buffalo, but other than that it's not too bad. We also don't know if they'll scale the difficulty or not.Uhm even if they leave the current NM as they are I don't think it would be a problem, most of them can be killed with 8 people and usually there's more than one NM up, so if you have 15 ppl online you can split into two parties and have two challenging fights instead on only one easy fight :P
I'm all for this. This is how they should have done it instead of nerfing exp for 9+ PT's.
It looks to me from the 1.17 notes, and the post about 2hr abilities in the dev tracker that SE is working hard to balance challenge with UI and gameplay streamlining. Seems like things are finally going to start getting interesting in Eorzea in the next couple months...but I've said that before...
I am all for these smaller parties, the only thing that worries me is obviously if there are extreme endgame content in the future similar to XI's Dynamis and very difficult HNMs you cannot do these things with just 8 people. Perhaps they will add an alliance feature just like XI as well O: I am all for that.
I guess it was just to make us used to the new party system before implementing it and IMHO it worked well, I didn't have a 9+ party since that patch so I don't really feel a difference (aside from NM)
Actually I hope they work this way for all of the fixes, drastic changes all at once are never a good thing :/ people need some time to understand and get used to new things
I think the smaller party system is a great idea. I think it's far too difficult to balance the game or add any sort of strategy when there are so many people out killing a handful of mobs. I'm lucky to get one or two hits on a mob in leves and cures are almost never needed. I'm super excited for the change and I hope they'll let us do behest more often!

I'm pretty sure this is Yoshsida's intention. I can't remember if it was in an interview or the letter where he mentioned a lot of MMOs are going from huge guilds to a small close knit group of friends/etc. and that was the direction he felt like going.
I hate it.. My ls normally goes out in a group of 10..
You didn't need to party up for dynamis, or campaign. They might add something similar to an XI alliance later. If they're willing to do this then it will probably be adjusted. I can't imagine everything later on in the game is only going to need 8 people lol.
What I do like is now all those failure LSs that shouldn't be fighting NMs to begin with have to learn how to actually play the game right or wipe to rage!
Seeing as how we usually do NM's with a group of 7-11 people, I don't see this being too big of a problem. Smaller party sizes are easier to coordinate, and less hectic.
