Thoughts: Reduce needed SP for TNR

Before you shut this idea down hear me out.

The recent SP changes in the Feb patches made SP grinding much more tolerable but there is still a huge amount of SP needed to rank up, which in turn delays the rate of story content a player experience in a timely fashion.

I made a comparison of XP needed in FFXI to get to certain levels VS SP needed to get to certain ranks in FFXIV.

    Heres the break down:

In FFXI to level from 30-31 you need 5,800 EXP

In FFXIV to rank from 30-31 you need 38,000 SP

To reach max level (75) in FFXI you need 42,000 EXP (pre 90 cap)

In FFXIV max rank (50) you need 100,000 SP.

I use these figures of lv 30-31 vs rank 30-31 becuase thats where i'm currently at in FFXIV.

Now I'm not concerned about rushing to rank 50 to max out. I'm concerned about the tmely access to story driven motivation.

    another example is this:
in FFXI level 30-40 it takes a total of 62,500 EXP
now back when FFXI first launched a good XP PT could xp ~5kxp/hr
a bad PT would get ~3kxp/hr
    so simple math:

(@3kXP/hr = ~20hrs of pure exp, @5kXP/hr=12.5 hrs of pure exp to go lv 30-40.

now in FFXIV: for ranks 30-40 it takes a total of 543,000SP
    Lowend SP/hr i guess is 10kSP/hr?
    highend ~20kSP/hr?
    so simple math:
    (@10kSP/hr = 54.3 hours of pure SP - or @20kSP/hr = ~27hrs at High end figures

I think if they reduce the amount of SP it takes to rank up post 20's the flow of story would be much smoother, and players would be eager for more. Not pounding their head against the mountain of SP they must over come just to reach the next story arch.

What is everyone else's thoughts on the amount of SP required to rank up and the timely intersection of story along that line?

We don't need less grind, we need more content. There's not enough to do at varying levels to mix it up.

This. Oh, so very much this. It also wouldn't hurt to perhaps add some other methods of gaining SP, but at the very least additional content would allow for things to do to take a break from the grind. Sidequests are certainly a step, at least.

I disagree. SP is fine right now. I actually hope it takes longer to get from 50 to 80.

Like the other guy said, we simply need more content. More things to do while we level, and more methods of leveling up.

Yeah im gonna have to say no to this too

As is, you level up way too fast as it is.

And comparing mechanics in 11 compared to 14 as to how EXP/SP was earned, and their respective total TNL/TNRs at each rank/level is not a very accurate way to do things.

In 11 kills took much longer at its respective 14 level, and thus your 6k tnr, is more like a 30-40k tnr by 14s standards.

I can currently earn about 15-20k per hour in 14 in the 30s....in the 30s in 11, how much could you earn per hour on average(and dont you dare quote abysea gains)

I'm in for 50-60 taking twice as long as 1-50.

I'm also in for 60-70 taking four times as long as 1-60.

This is assuming we get some endgame content like dynamis or something. Also merits from rank 50+ would be awesome too!

I am sorta against this for the fact that I have a new member in my linkshell who joined 3 weeks ago and he has a rank 38 class, a 30 class, and 4 between 22-28. If they made it easier people would beat the game before stuff is even added. Myself though I been playing since release have almost every fighting class above 30 and 2 fighting classes at 45. Averaging about 4hrs a day of playtime.

You can go from rank 10 => 20 in about 4hrs (literally 2000-2500sp per kill in a 3 leve link). Obviously because of the sp bonus pre24 but still this is absurdly fast.

On an average leve night with 8 party members I can get around 70,000 sp in 3 1/2 - 4 hrs without using the fail method. could probably push 100k in the same time if we all made sure we had the best leves every time.

When partying I feel the rate of sp gain is about equivalent to what I did when I was leveling in FFXI.

I think they will probably lower it once the level cap is increased. If they do it now I fear those actually playing would beat the game in a few months so to say.

I will admit, they need to reduce the sp gain from 1-20 or bump up the sp requirement or SOMETHING. It's laughably ridiculous how fast it is. That would at least prepare people for the grind after 30.

    This, definitely this.

Especially since it is obvious that Square Enix plans on having an expansion and raising the level cap to a higher point in the future. Just use a third party DAT tool to look at the game files - you'll see entries for Mythril Armor, Darksteel Armor, etc...stuff that is clearly for when Ishgard opens up.

Of course, don't lower the SP requirements until *after* the cap is raised and content is added.

Its already very easy on battle classes to get to 50, way easier imo, than FFXI.
