In FFXI i played with NA mostly and hell i was pissed 4 days a week when i watched them start NNE, Dynamis and all that other stuff 15 minutes before i had to log. Made me quit cause i dont pay for a "Massive Multiplayer Online Game" to play it on my own.

    THAT is the point.

Finaly there is a higher chance for the EU gamers to play with other EU gamers. One of the main reasons i came back after i quit in v.1.
That's why they should have removed this JP/EU/NA nonsense completely.

Just one list of server - choose whichever you want.

Of course the various communities out there would have chosen "unofficial (insert country here) server" so some unbalance was going to happen anyway, but still that would have allowed every server, more or less, to have people from all timezones.

Yeah well that's exactly what some people don't want.
Personally I find it more appealing to play with people from Europe than lets say Japan.
    It's more comfortable for raiding.

I hear this everywhere, but this is wrong. European players will most likely pick a server designated with EU because they will find people there mostly in line with their timezone. I picked EU because I want to raid during evenings instead of hearing the raid is planned for the middle of my night should I have played on a server designated as NA. It's really that simple.

I would never have concidered to come back to this game if servers would have been "global" again. And im sure that a lot of europeans see it like me. I placed my order when i found out, that there will be "EU"-servers. Not before.

I started FFXIV in alpha and i really loved it from the very beginning. But again: I couldnt find ppl playing during my time-frame. Global servers are bulls**t if the eastern part of the world is asleep and the western part of the world is at work while you are finaly able to play after you had a long day in your office or with your kids.

Besides that: "JP only - english no thanks"... I have seen that way too much in my final fantasy time.

Some people seem to have severely missed the point on this one. Arguing that; "The EU and NA servers are in the same location!!!" doesn't really matter, I mean...what the hell does the physical location have to do with server designation anyway? I know they are all one list, in one physical location, but that's not the point of the discussion, the point was: Why are there only 6 EU Servers? Why are only 6 out of the list of 25 EU/NA servers designated as EU, for players who prefer to play with other players from the EU during EU primetime, in EU languages?

The influx of new players from launch is going to cause even more problems.

Lots of people absolutely and utterly fail at reading comprehension. Dingo is right on the nose here - this is the main concern, not ping. I can't raid with Americans or Japanese because of the timezones. I guess an entire Euro LS could create on a JP server and just run their own raid times (which would be when the server is practically desolate). That kind of defeats the point of community though, doesn't it? Plus the game is so fresh, a lot of players have no idea what LS they want to join.

Totaly agree, that is one of the things I liked about FFXI. No matter what time I logged on, there was always enough people online to group with.

Because in SE's past experience there was BARELY enough people not to make a ghost server with 1 EU server in the previous version.
Growth is expected by why would they expect a change in the ratio of logins from different parts of the world? EU had always been the smallest amount of people before, they presumed that no matter how much the game grew, it'd still be the smallest amount of people, thus the smallest amount of servers

Well if us EU players can't get on, then SE is going to have what I like to call a "self-fulfilling prophecy".
