If I log back in tomorrow and I get 1017ed I am doing a refund and a charge back if that's what it takes. This is really unacceptable.

It seems like they're going to keep the restriction on for the next week, if we look at other MMO launches as a reference. That means that we're basically losing a week of play time because they are putting these restrictions in place.
^ This. Anything else isn't really a queue. To take it even further, one should never log directly into the server, bypassing the queue in the first place. That defeats the purpose of having the queue. Everyone should log in to the queue, and then move down it to log in to the server. This way, it stays as a true FIFO routine, and no one gets the Full Server Message.
But apparently SE just invented queues and doesn't know how to implement them.
In the meantime (1017), i'm just supposed to guess when my world isn't full so i can maybe join a queue...someday...in a couple weeks...? /sigh
I won the 1017 slot last night and got to log in, but the irritation caused by this mess made playing only so enjoyable. I like this game and want to continue to like it, but it's hard when the climate is so deformed by nonsense.
These restrictions are just so terrible. The Q needs to go out to 10,000 and the worlds should just be shut down if they're fixing things. Do more 3 hour maintenance sessions where I know I can't get on. I've been wasting the whole weekend splitting my screen between youtube and FF and just having to hope with every click. I'd rather know things are getting full attention than have these tiny servers. The game is great SO I WANT TO PLAY IT
Or, you can just play on the JP server cluster, which has had NO PROBLEMS.
Seriously, the ping difference is 50ms, big deal. If you're in a guild with less than 50 people, just have everyone reroll over there until they get things fixed. I'm starting to think the only way this will get resolved is if they cancel their co-location contract and move to a REAL data center, on the main US backbone in Virginia (for example).
Yet here we are... their cloud causes us all strife. That's nonsense. It's 2013. Server farms are scaleable. You lease what you expect to need, then add or remove machines as needed. If that's not how FFXIV works, then either their programmers or IT operations teams are morons. World of Warcraft made that virtualization switch over 7 years ago. Every MMO since has done so. TESO is using far superior world/realm-less design to keep the MMO and benefit from infrastructure of an action RPG.
The eternal SE/player relationship, in a nutshell...

so sad... but true.
This 1017 mini-game isn't something I expected, thank you SE!!
looks like a lot of canceled orders and refunds are in order
