I had issues with the DF/instanced portions prior to a few of the maintenances. Those seem to be resolved (for the most part). However the amount of people connecting or trying to connect to a single server has not. It's increasing. So at this point I can honestly say that I don't believe that the Duty Finder is the issue. Their servers just can't currently handle the amount of load that the many NA/EU users ALL logging in would place on them.Actually, the normal gameplay servers were fine. It's the instanced/duty finder portions that are the problem. People were getting stalled/bounced when trying to access specific pieces of content.
Instead of trying to find an alternative way of handling these things, which would take a lot of redevelopment time (ala FFXI methods), they are trying to fix the stability issues with just those particular servers.
What they COULD do is just stop those missions from progressing while they work on the problem. Sure, it would suck to have everybody locked down at the level 15-ish story mission until it's resolved--but they could change classes and work on other crap in the mean time. The entire game doesn't need to be taken away from 80% of the playerbase over this crap.
This could have been worked on during Beta P4 if SE had extended NA/EU's P4 stress testing after clearing the original 3102.
Finally 1017 has hit me, managed to stay on during almost 100% of the servers uptime since EA started and just crashed from alt tabing. Guess it's finally time for a long sleep.
Guys, there IS a que system. I've been using it all day long on Faerie. It was working yesterday too. However, they've placed login restrictions which means once the limit is hit, a que isn't going to start up and in the event that you are in a que - if you're #26 and there are only 5 spots left, you're going to be bumped out of que when 5 people ahead of you get in.
The problem isn't that there is a lack of a que system, it's that squenix apparently didn't prepare for such intense server loads and congestion which is just bizarre and stupid dumb considering final fantasy is one of the most gargantuan game franchises ever. Who knows what the techies are doing or working on. It is pretty frustrating but what is there to do other than sit around and be frustrated/complain? I made a new toon on faerie to occupy myself in the meantime. I just want to play my MAIN though.

This is crazy, 1017 all day yesterday and 1017 all day today :-( You think they would have been more careful launching a second time.

Not to be an ass to the rest of everyone trying to get in but this was the only way to really get in without hassle![]()
If we really get some compensation, a month of free play time would help a lot of people feel more comfortable with recommending Square Enix and FF14 ARR to friends. My experience with MMO's has been lackluster on launch days, and rightfully so. Companies seem to struggle with stress testing their servers and preparing for an influx of gamers. Maybe its time we start highlighting the element of MMO's that causes this problem - the first M. MASSIVE - the customer base and interest in an environment where they can play with friends is huge. Its human nature to want to join up with your friends and battle foe's, especially in this case in a cross platform game. I think Square Enix was unable to test this in beta with such limited access, and failed miserably in only allowing for beta servers to be the ones accessed for "pre order/launch" purchasing customers. In the past, MMO's have had struggles with servers and been able to figure a lot out by kicking AFK gamers taking up space. If SE would attempt such a bout, I think they (the company) as well as the fan base would be pleased with the amount of play time made available to the public. We really need SE to make a public announcement to address the issues they are experiencing. Telling PAYING CUSTOMERS that they are sorry for the inconvenience isn't going to cut it, especially 3 days into a pre launch - soon to be main launch of the game come tomorrow August 27th. I really hope they think twice about how many people they are losing and how many potential new customers will turn away from their game titles in the future if they don't compensate or fix the issue ASAP.
POLITE, RESPECTFUL, INTELLIGENT comments are recommended and invited.
Thanks all.

The reason for the login restrictions isnot because of login problems though. It's with specific servers that manage specific sections of content AFTER one logs in--as in it's bound to specific quests/missions. Think back to how FFXI's arena fights switched you to another server for the fight. It's kind of the same thing going on here, just managed differently programming-wise. Those servers could not handle the demand being put on it by the players. Instead of doing something to disable/restirct JUST access to that content while they work on it, they have opted to freeze out all access to the gam only to a level they know those servers can handle, then gradually let them creep in to see if they can crash it, trying to tweak things on the fly.First I do appreciate a logical and well thought argument, and not a insult. Thank you. Yes, I do realize that tomorrow even more people will be logging on. However I would like to point out that it is likely only a handful of people on there actually understand what its like to actually make and maintain a game. It isn't easy I assure you. No matter how aware they are about how many people will be logging on nothing can test how the servers will react to that much traffic. It cannot be prevented in almost any new mmo. I am aware that everyone has expectations of SE but they tend to be a little blind. There is nothing that can be done now that isn't already being done. They posted a warning about this on the 21st. You cannot say that you where not warned about what might happen. SE will open up many more servers tomorrow that can better accommodate the traffic but there will still be issues. Bioware, Blizzard and any other company that has an mmo have all experienced this problem at one point or another you just have to understand that these things happen. I'm positive that SE will correct the problem in some way to make up for the time players lost. The big picture here is the game will be around for a few years at least. you will all survive a few days of waiting.
p.s. before anyone decides to post further insults to me know this I really don't care what you think of me or my opinion. if you want to disagree with me try and actually make a FACTUAL argument.
Where they've screwed the pooch is they've denied too large a population access to the game because of an issue with a small portion of the content....issues that don't really come into play until you hit a certain point in the story line or run specific types of quests/missions. These could have just been disabled, or they could have injected code to capture the exceptions and throw people out of the queue for access without throwing them out of the game until they come up with a more appropriate solution. Again, think of it like the waiting for access in FFXI. Only so many can be in the arena (ie: instanced fight run on the special server), if it's too full--they get a message to wait their turn and it kicks them back to the normal game.
By now, they should have a big enough sample set to know what is needed (they had issues in Beta 4, and now nearly 3 days of early access). They've run into these issues before in a previous game. They know tactics that can actually work to resolve this point of error that would be acceptable as a temporary fix. They just need to implement thsee countermeasures until they find a better fix. Locking people out of the game is no longer necessary at this point, they're just too set in their ways and we are getting screwed from behind without the courtesy of a reach-around.
Sorry.. bad imagery I guess... just getting a little pissed at this point.
