this launch isn't by far the worst mmo launch

Japanese culture is all about respect and honour, or atleast that's what I heard.
Yet some how I get the feeling that it only counts when your japanese, the rest of the world can just disapear and they wouldn't even so much as blink....
Can But a REAL QUEUE and Kick AFK player............................... many of them are AFK
So this thread has reached 1500+ replies, many of them from different individuals. Even if a third of the posts are from someone that have posted earlier, that leaves at least 1000 players that are disappointed, feel cheated, angry, and completely justified in their feelings. Hopefully this will help somewhat.
I know that SE is currently looking for a solution as they have posted that they are going to be expanding their facilities to handle this situation, but that could take as long as a week or longer for the equipment to be delivered, installed, configured, and then made available to players. Also, they have instituted a method to freely transfer characters from server to server so that when these servers are brought online that players can opt to move to them, thus relieving the load on the current servers.
As for the lack of an AFK kick function in the game, I think that as players we can petition for that to be added into the game. Via the proper channels.
As far as compensation for the time lost by literally thousands of players affected, I would suggest calling for a fair compromise. It's been suggested that players should receive a day for a day exchange for all players until this problem is resolved. Another thing that can be suggested are apology items. Many online games often award bonuses or special items in the event of service interruption on such large scales. This can also be an option.
The lack of any moderator or developer input into this forum thread is disheartening, considering how quickly players have been posting, and the length of the thread. However, I can only theorize that they haven't done so thus far in an effort to avoid much of the blame being pushed onto individuals despite any good intentions many may have. They run the risk of effectively becoming scapegoats in the middle of a very angry mob. I have no doubt that they are reading this forum and that SE understands that they have a considerable amount of work to do in a short time or they run the risk of losing customers.
We can as players do our part as well. Discourage the AFK-ers at each opportunity, as they are taking up room on the servers that many others could be using to play. I know no one can really stop it, but as a gaming community we can let our disapproval be known. Inform others that if they are receiving the 90000 error to do what they can to make another character in a server simply to force a log out of the stuck character. Also, we can use this time to submit petitions to the developers as I've stated before. While I'm sure they know we aren't happy with the current conditions, many players have great insight into problems that online games have and can offer solutions based on that. Many have alpha, beta, and stress tested games and have learned what works and what does not. For those that cannot offer that insight, don't think your voice is any less valuable. Petition about solutions you see here in the forum that you'd be willing to accept. This way the Devs at SE know that they have support from their customers to act if they choose to go with solutions we've suggested, and that they shouldn't go with solutions that would further anger us. Regardless though, they do have to find and choose effective solutions.
Finally, and I know that this is quite a bit to read(Sorry about that), but let's try not to let the technical failings of the game's capacity ruin a very beautiful and fun game for us. This is an amazing MMO with great concepts and a deep story that you can immerse yourself in. The world is beautiful and incredibly detailed, and you can really feel as if you're talking to the key NPC's in the game. I for one want to be patient and supportive, because I want to see this game stay LIVE and to really have fun playing it for years to come, just like every other Final Fantasy game I own. I hope that everyone here can help make that happen, not just for me, but for yourselves as well.
Thank you to those that read through everything. I appreciate it.
Just a heads up.. It says JP data center but it's posted by NOC_NA in the NA section of the forums.. If this is intended for NA data centers we got a whole week of this shit ahead of us all..[NA]Regarding Congestion in Japan Data Center Worlds (Aug. 27)
Thank you very much for playing FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.
Currently, an extremely high number of players are enjoying the game. Should the number of players continue to increase at the current pace, there is the possibility that our expectations and server capacity will be greatly surpassed. Therefore, in order to maintain a stable gameplay environment, we are implementing login and character creation restrictions.
In order to be able to welcome a drastically greater number of players, we are starting as early as this week with preparations to increase our facilities, to be ready by early next week. Until that time, we will be continuing to implement these restrictions as required, and we ask for your understanding and patience.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and once again thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Where is your source for this? I haven't seen anything on any of the SE sites that indicates that this will be an option. Would it be nice? Sure, but why do that when they are just clearly limiting character creation as a means to stop server population increases?
And what exactly are the "proper channels"? Aside from the standard, we're working the problem updates, I haven't seen a FFXIV community manager like person even address the masses of frustrated players.
But does that kind of award or bonus really affect how SE would do things in the future? Digital "bonus/awards" don't affect the bottom line of a big company like SE and the bottom line is what really brings attention to the people in charge who can make changes (and make them happen fast!)
Look up the Mog Station. That is what is intended to handle the world transfer.

This is the link to their support. Many players have already submitted questions and concerns through this portal.
For this I do agree with you that hurting a business's bottom line does get their attention very quickly and usually gets results. However they are not always positive results. If too many players decided they simply want refunds for the game and SE gets financial reports showing that FF14 is not longer considered profitable to maintain then the game will never get better. Most likely their losses will be cut, FF14 will be designated a failure, people will get fired, and us players will have lost a very good game. I don't want that to happen.
And thank you for reading my post. I really appreciate it.

Sorry I wasn't being clear. I meant FREE world transfer. Where is there any mention of "FREE" world transfer? I can easily see SE allowing PAID world transfers (WoW does that all the time). And yes WoW does allow free transfers from heavily populated servers to lesser ones but a) they have a history of doing that and b) they've mentioned it on their site and twitter and blogs. SE does not have a history and they have NOT mentioned "FREE" world transfers anywhere on their sites.
Fair enough. I imagine that should they be rather restrictive about it that they would probably open up a short, and I do emphasize short, window where players can transfer their characters for free. While I do hope SE does not do this, you are absolutely right in that it is a very real possibility that they may charge to do so, or they may simply transfer excess players without any warning. I am hoping that this does not come to pass, as many people will be extremely upset, including myself.
