The is the FIRST Square Enix MMO I have ever purchased and it will be my last, if these issues aren't fixed in the next 48 hours, you can count my further support to be in the water. Can't log in to ANY NA server, this is just flat out ridiculous

Lamia...
Only been around since Beta 4, but 1017'd more often than not at this point...
I been trying to log in for hours now, and i get the same "The server is full, try again later (1017)" Like i said before, i hope SE extend our 30 days Free to play..... (and sry for my english)
I consider myself a casual gamer, maybe an hour and a half or so a day.
I've been trying to play Realm Reborn since beta phase 4, and so far I've managed to get through character creation before: I load zones, and get disconnected from the server, never to reconnect again because of error 1017 or randomly getting dropped during load.
I work a graveyard shift where I'm at, so normally I get into games no problem, I haven't been able to play yours yet.
I'd really appreciate it if you fixed your servers. I was not expecting a smooth launch but this is ... I haven't seen a launch this bad since Ever Quest.
Ok, they posted what they needed to...a correction to a statement that obviously was made out of haste to appeal to players who are upset.
Each one of you who are QQing on here about how SE has done a shit job (Which we all know they could have done better..) Aren't really accomplishing anything but making yourselves look like asses. I didn't get to play with friends for 4 days, 2 minutes at a time before I got kicked. It happens.
World of Warcraft - Bad Launch
In the days after that launch, server queues routinely reached into the thousands, random disconnections were common, and latency issues famously trapped people in a "looting" animation for a half hour. Problems were still frequent by January 2005, when GameSpot reported that 20 of the game's 88 servers were offline for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend. Blizzard's Mike Morhaime publicly apologized for the problems and offered four days of free play time for the disruption (street value: about $1.50).
Disney Infinity - Bad Launch
PS3 users experienced crashing, freezing, corrupted game saves and a wide variety of issues to include having to disable their connections on their PS3s completely in order to play a game that cost people up to 5 times the amount of Final Fantasy XIV.
What was the response from Disney to PS3 users? "Turn your connection off, delete the patch and wait..."
Diablo 3 - Horrible Launch
Blizzard initially downplayed the problem, but as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube filled with over-the-top rage (not to mention countless jokes) about not being able to log in, Blizzard quickly offered a formal apology. "Despite very aggressive projections, our preparations for the launch of the game did not go far enough," the company said. "We're continuing to monitor performance globally and will be taking further measures as needed to ensure a positive experience for everyone."
Just when Blizzard thought the problems were behind them, servers were again hammered on May 31, when a new patch rollout led to widespread login errors yet again. By that point, many players had already given up on a game that by most accounts failed to live up to a decade of heightened expectations. Though the game still has a devoted following, the pain of that negative first impressions seems to have taken its toll.
Vanguard - LoL
Game was full of incomplete pieces, crashed every second or two, and laggy
The point is...every major publisher or game has had issues.
You people can say I'm this or that or whatever. You can also cry more. Atleast it's taken them 4-5 days to come up with a resolution and not the Disney route and say "Tough it up..."
They're doing something, have some patience.

Ghost,
Although I would agree with the 'Spirit' of your post and the intention behind it, it is misplaced. The title of this thread is "The server is full, try again later (1017)" and it is in the Technical Support Forum not General please stay on topic. If you have an issue, report it. Otherwise post in a different forum thanks.
On topic:
I am in now on Adamantoise thanks!
When will this fallacy ever die? In the history of MMOs, you are correct that there have been plenty of bad launches with buggy content that should have never made it past final Beta, or platform compatibility issues, or even unfinished content. However, since the launch of the very first MMO, Meridian 59, in 1995 there have been only 4 (count 'em 4!) MMOs prior to the Final Fantasy XIV:ARR Launch that have been inaccessible or unplayable to the majority of their players at launch time.
1. Anarchy Online (Funcom) 2001
2. Star Wars Galaxies (SOE) 2003
3. World of Warcraft (Blizzard) 2004
4. Aion (NCSoft) 2009
There certainly have been numerous MMOs that have launched flawlessly, without any major problems, many of which still number in the Top 10 MMOs. For example, EVE Online (CCP) 2003, City of Heroes (NCSoft) 2004, Everquest II (SOE) 2004, Guild Wars (NCSoft) 2005, Dungeons and Dragons Online (Turbine) 2006, and The Lord of the Rings Online (Turbine) 2007, just to name a few. It is especially important to note that this list of flawless MMO launches is by no means complete. Almost all MMOs launch with no significant game-stoppers. Perhaps the problem might be that you don't hear about the good launches, you only hear about the epic bad ones.
The reason why the vast majority of MMOs launch with no game-stoppers is because the MMO market is so overly saturated with fierce competition there no longer remains room for Amateur-hour sloppiness as there once was in the mid to late 1990's. In the second decade of the 21st century an MMO is expected to have worked out all of these game-stoppers prior to the end of Closed Beta, and Open Beta is for final Stress Testing of your Hardware Infrastructure to ensure that it will be able to handle the increased load of "Land-Rush" at Official Launch. If there is a problem you delay your Launch (which can be financially disastrous to a game publisher, but not as disastrous if you go ahead with release with game-stopping issues). The professionals plan ahead of time and do what is called Capacity Planning (taking anticipated Subscribers based upon projections, Open Beta participation, and actual pre-order sales to determine Peak Load, and then plan your infrastructure to handle capacity for 2-3x that Peak).
There should never be surprises or major game-stoppers at Launch, such as the inability to login to the game, because it is bad for customer satisfaction, loyalty, and publicity (all of which are critical as those first 90 days is paramount to the financial success or failure of an MMO...especially when you consider that the average lifespan of a MMO subscription is only six months). That is how the professional Top-Tier AAA MMOs do business, knowing that in this day you have one shot with your MMO to make it, and there are dozens upon dozens of alternatives players can flock to if you fail.
In every MMO I have been involved with over the past 18 years when there has been *ANY* problem that prevents a significant number of players from actually playing the game it is given top priority (as in all departments drop what they are doing and "All hands on deck") and is fixed within 24 hours, whereas the "little things" such as bugs with a particular quest, or an item, or an animation will be prioritized in a Triage manner, according to severity vs how easily fixed, and are scheduled to be quashed in the next Bug Release or Content Update (sometimes a week or a month, or even a quarter of a year later, depending on Dev availability). If the standard has been 24 hours to resolve a game-stopper affecting a significant number of players, then where does that leave SE which is going on how many days since these problems first started showing in P4 Open Beta (or to be nice, you can count just since Early Access)? This is both unacceptable for an MMO to not remedy this problem within a day, let alone 5+ days, and easily puts FFXIV:ARR towards the top of the list of the Top 5 (now) Worst MMO Launches of all time.
(Granted, to be fair, Blizzard took almost two months after WoW's launch to fix their Login Capacity problems, but WoW is an industry fluke that defies the standard rules and who's irrational success has never been duplicated in the industry since. However, SE would be beyond foolish to think that they can still remain successful while handling FFXIV:ARR's launch woes the same inept way Blizzard handled WoW's launch woes.)

That brought back a lot of memories FraterOrmus. I played Meridian 59 back then. It was the first mmo I ever played. Very well written post.

I really don't care about the way us Legacy Players are being treated. I think that we put up with enough baloney that to be denied a chance to play now is a slap in the face. The people in charge of this project should have known damned well how many Legacy players there were, they should have known, or at least estimated on the high side how many people would want to check out the game at launch. Give me a break. I'm sure the devs and the people responsible would have had some idea of what to do, but it seems they don't.
I don't need to hear excuses about how it's working as intended because they are intentionally limiting logins. I don't care about how other people say 'they weren't ready' 'they didn't know'. Oh really? Whoever it was that 'didn't know' should be fired. Sorry, that's just how it is. Yeah, this is just another post by a realtively anonymous internet rager but still, we played this game at 1.0, it sucked, but we played. Some of us even played XI, I sure did. I put in a good four years in that game.
Maybe they'll get these issues fixed soon enough, and maybe after we'll be very happy and never speak of this again, but really, to tout how important us Legacy players are, to advertise how much love and effort and determination they put into making XIV a better experience, a better game for everyone, well, if everyone can't play, I guess that's like breaking a promise.
I really want to play this game. Yeah I guess I could go outside and let the bright yellow ball in the sky warm my face, or spend time with my family and friends, or go play another game, but if you had tickets to that big concert or to the game of your favorite major league team, and got to the door and the door was closed and locked with no explanation, you'd be angry too and want to rant at someone.
Thank you.

This error stuff has been hard; but look at this video. It made me laugh.
