The thing is, it's the gfx driver that crashes, meaning anything gpu accelerated doesn't work anymore, I can't even browse websites. I have to reboot my system in order to do anything again.

This has been going on for months(!) and has come to a point I'm even considering buying a new gfx card while my card can run this game on (almost) highest settings prefectly.

    I have a GTX660 Ti OC from Gigabyte on a Win7 64bit, current driver version : 332.21
    Soundcard : Creative Soundblaster Zx

Really getting on my (and my LS/FC's) nerves!

Has there been any feedback on the nVidia issues from SE ?
Have you tried down-clocking the GPU core and/or the memory? You may have 100+ boosts over the non-OC reference designs.

Also, did you verify your PSU is strong enough to support the card? Only mention the PSU because a lot of people have upgraded graphics cards without checking their power capacity, and the newer generations are considerably more power hungry than we've seen in the past. Your system may be pulling in close to 450W+ when this game is in full swing. That would mean at least a 550-600W certified 80+/SLI PSU, or 750-800W generic PSU.

Remember, XIV is coded very inefficiently so it hammers the h3ll out of your hardware with excessive CPU usage and memory transfers, so it will gobble more power than you may see with other games--as well as generate more heat, which can contribute to instability as well and reduce your capacity for overclocking.

I don't get a BSOD, I get a complete blackout on the game screen. I play windowed and the frame is full visible as is the task bar, but the game window is black. If I've been fighting something, as long as I keep pushing my rotation buttons, when the video pops back on, the mobs are normally dead. This happened during Garuda when I was tanking and wow was it freaking me out!
It always seems to happen at the worst possible times lol.

Black Screen System Freeze Requiring Reboot

This has also been happening since December. Figured it was time to contribute officially.

It's gotten to the point that I don't want to sign up for Duty Finder or Party Finder anymore and EX Primals are out of the question because this issue could easily cause a wipe. This issue is killing my ability to play the game.

There is not common point at which this happens and has happened at every possible point:
After hours of play (solo in cites, in the field, in a party in an instance, etc.)
After less than an hour of play
At the start screen before I could even connect to a data center

    Details using official PC Template:

    Time: Random
Frequency: 1 to Many Times a day
    World name: Exodus
    Character name: Briareos Donoho
    Class/Level: BRD 50
    Party or solo: Both
    Steps:
    1. Play Game
    2. At some random point Screen Goes Black and must reboot
    3. Repeat

looks like the 500 series had some issues with this a while back. Some of the suggestions I saw were to roll back to older drivers (290 series mentioned a few times).

I was once getting weirdness with my laptop's 670MX (black screen and gold vertical lines flashing in). Oddly enough, it only stopped after updating the package for my sound to resolve an issue with the little subwoofer underneath it cutting in and out. So, perhaps a full BIOS and driver checkup from the manufacturer may be in order if you haven't done the whole works yet.

I really wonder why these problems can go on for so long on this game and not any others.
Has there been ANY word on these issues?
(sorry, don't feel like trudging though 52 pages of error logs)

It's an Alienware M18x purchased in 2012 specifically for gaming and has had zero issues until 2.1. It was spec'd to play anything on max settings and still does so. Since this issue began, I've done Bios updates (system and gfx). Complete driver removal and testing of different versions (nVidia). I've tried the various suggested settings and nothing has stopped this issue that occurs only with FFXIV. I really enjoy this game, otherwise I'd just play something else.

    Edit/Addendum:
Logged into the client. Got a phone call. Intro movie is running... Black Screen. This occurred on the 2nd or 3rd loop.

I just wanted to let everyone know that this past Friday I installed the game then Monday my disk usage kept saying 100% I then restored to 4 different points and then got a bsod window8 style(it was humorous).I had to factory reset it It fixed the problem whatever the problem was(hopefully).

    Same problem here.
It started today when I get to the east shroud I get the first bsod, after rebooting I launched the game again and after 15 minutes I get another bsod, so I turned it to windowed mode, and get the bsod again.
Before it I was getting to much connection lags, maybe it's something related to lan drivers [?]
It's my first month, so, if i continue getting this problem i wont subscribing to it.
i'm new to mmorpgs and just played it because i'm a huge fan of FF series

Oh frabjous day. I'm so happy to hear that other people experience the manifold wonders that compose FFXIV crashing. Not. More seriously, my condolences to the rest of you.

I'm of the nvlddmkm.sys reset error variety myself. I've gone through basic fixes (reinstall drivers, clean reinstall, clear registry, etc), and went through lists of other suggested TDR error fixes. Looking like nothing helps though, and the error only occurs in FFXIV. At this point regrettably my best hope is that it gets fixed by the developers, which based on this thread seems unlikely. I suppose I'm not that surprised, I helped alpha test the original game, and well, I'd call it a catastrophe, but that implies there was substance to it in the first place.
