Freeze/Crash & BSOD issues

I guess I could repley with more boring crap, so here it goes.

WoW mode makes 32bit systems work with 64 bit systems. But there is a lot more involved, which most people get bored with the WHY. So, I guess I'll just say my findings from some research on the subject. Look up "Dirty memory" its really sloppy, hence the dirty memory title, but I didn't give it to that; that's just what I found.

I do want to blame windows....BUT, they give us the platform to build upon...is it their fault that devs don't write code to spec?...(in respect to dirty memory, is there a right way?)..well I'm at a loss after that Dirty memory explanation...I'm not a Dev so I can't answer.

Still getting the problem after a completely new install of FFXIV. Only thing I have yet to try is getting a new computer and **** that for one game that isn't working right but was working fine before early access (during phase 3 and 4).

I hate to say, and I really hope I'm wrong too, I don't think SE will try to solve this issue any time soon.

I had the same problem as described by others in this thread and I FIXED it! At first my game would lock up and crash whenever I alt tabbed. Then it started to crash even when I was just playing and didn't alt tab. Then my computer started shutting off and not turning on for a few minutes after. My problem kept getting worse and worse as time went on. I ran many hardware checks on my computer and found all the components seemed to be working fine.

However, when I looked up my power supply unit model number the Thermaltake TR2 600NL2NC, I found that it was a defective model and was known to cause problems like I was having. Anyway, I went and bought a Corsair psu and installed it. I have not disconnected/crashed/or had my computer shutdown while playing FFXIV.

The morale of the story guys: Check your hardware. It seems to be a very select part of the population having these types of problems and if it was a program problem a lot more people would be having the same issues. I also noticed that my friend who had the exact same rig as me minus the power supply didn't have any of my issues.

I'm in the process of running FFXIV from my office computer, away from the majority of my power suckers; just to make sure the problems are the same. Some boats I haven't jumped on yet....brrrrarggg....housing circuits, are they REALLY grounded? have you isolated your computer from say your big ass TV and other high power usage equipment? That is, not drawing from the same household circuit? Some posters had mentioned PSU's before, I wanted to check it a different way. I think this theory may not pan out, but it may have merit cause I can't solve this BS, but looking at it 7 times might bring new insight. >>>Long live the fighters!

I have no new info, I gave it all I had before I said something.
All I got now is wild crap, that may or not help some one.

Still interested if 32bit OS users have this problem, haven't heard of any yet.

I love how I've gotten an email for me to start paying in October but not one email to one of my tickets regarding this problem. Yesterday I got a good couple hours with no crash but now I can't go for more than 15 minutes without crashing... and they want me to pay for this?!



And what upsets me the most... what really gets me is that this was their chance to really make up for that horrid game they put out originally. They relaunch with absolutely horrendous (more like non-existent) customer support and a game that is inconsistently playable. I have played countless PC games and this has never once happened to me. Your average gamer is just not going to stick with it... such stupid business decisions from these guys and that's what upsets me.

It has been 24 days... 24!... since the moderator popped in to say they're looking into it. That doesn't cut it Square... I'm sorry. The worst part is we're probably the lucky ones who get some acknowledgement because I know there are countless threads full of people who haven't heard anything from a representative of SQE and have had numerous technical tickets ignored or eliminated. Way to relaunch your game guys! All those resources poured into improving the game when you forgot in the end it's about the service... we're paying for a service after the game is purchased and you are failing at providing a service. It's like paying for a cable subscription but sometimes the channels work and sometimes they don't... no one is going to pay for that. Guess what... Elder Scrolls and many other high quality MMOs are right around the corner.

I hate seeing businesses make such blindingly stupid decisions.

I think we just need to post in this more and direct anyone having the same issues in game here to get SE to notice and do something. It might not be an issue with a game but an issue with out setups but at the least it'd be nice to get some feedback or suggestions from SE. I can't really try playing on a different computer as my laptop is old and has issues with the GPU overheating when playing 3D games.

I have tried:
Resetting CPU clock speed to default (2.66 Ghz as opposed to my OC at 3.5Ghz)
The Nvidia inspector graphics card mode lock thing
Lowering the in game settings
reinstalling the game
removing/using the frame rate limiter in game
Using the latest beta drivers
using the latest stable release drivers
make sure nothing is overheating (CPU ran at around 56 C max on 2.66Ghz and GPU did not run long enough to get close to being hot before a crash a few times)
ran FFXIV as admin

I run FFXIV windowed at 1600x900, I have 2 monitors and 64bit Windows 7 Pro. Using a GTX285 with latest release drivers and an intel i7 920 at 2.66Ghz.

Also, I should add I only had this problem starting from the update for Early Access. Prior to that, during phases 3 and 4 I had no issue at all running the game for extended periods of time. I never had one crash at all and was lucky enough not to encounter connection issues so I was able to play pretty much constantly during the beta. Since the update to Early Access I started getting problems. There must have been something in that update that has caused this to happen.

They have noticed it (check a post from a mod 24 days ago) but they have not kept us appraised of what is going on and it's frustrating. BUT they did notify me that my free month is about to end so I will have to start paying... they sure as hell worked their payment system out. Whatever... good luck getting help Zomba.

After crashing for the 6th time today I'm done... just done with it. I want to really applaud the development team because you guys really did a great job reshaping the game. I remember trying out the original beta and just being in absolute shock at how horrible the game was. I was a huge FFXI fan so I was looking forward to starting with this so you can understand how upset I was when I tried that first beta. Ugh... but I kept tracking the game and then the eventual decision to redevelop and relaunch the game and was so happy to see what you guys came up with. Really... kudos!

BUT... I just can't play this game... literally. I look forward to when you guys get your bugs worked out because I think I'll try it again. I'll keep my eye on this thread to see if any developments come but I won't be subscribing come October 2nd. Please SQE... get your house in order. Get some Customer Support... get some reliable ticketing system... and simply work out these issues fast because all that hard and great work you did will be for nothing.

Good luck everyone else who is experiencing this problem... I really love the game... just can't play it. Take care!
