I started having this problem today, following the update. Played for about 90mins and then got a windows popup saying the program had encountered an error and needed to close. Then about 30sec later, got BSOD. Logged back in and about another 90mins passed and the same exact thing happened again. I've never had any BSOD issues at all until the 9/4 patch.

I've been having the BSOD issue also. I haven't been able to play for more than 15 minutes at all after the patch. It was happening prior to the patch also but I couldn't really time it due to the issues logging in. I'm using up to date Nvidia drivers. My machine is more than capable of running this and any other game on the market. To anyone thinking it's a heat issue, I can assure you it isn't. At least not in my case. My CPU and GPU are both water cooled. Temps are well below threshold. I've tried many different steps, including steps posted on this forum. patiently awaiting a response from SE on this one....

Just an update: I've done a clean OS install, formatted the hard drive also. Also went from W7 to W8 and I've been playing now for 3 hours without a crash or a BSOD. I hope the crashes wont happen anymore. Will write here again if I crash.
Edit: Well after no crash at around 3 straight hours of play, now I logged in to check a few things and crashed after 5min. So the OS reinstall did not solve anything.

I have the same problem as well. I have played through beta and alpha with no problem. After early access games would crash and etc.

I even played this game from 1.0 with no problem.

I've done a OS re-installation, even an update to Windows 8.1, and it crashes...

Windows Kernel event ID 41 error "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting do

I am glad to see I am not alone with this issue.

Windows Kernel event ID 41 error "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first" in Windows 8.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

This issue recently started on my game rig, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what could be causing it. I strictly monitor my temps. During gaming my CPU cores run 41-50 degrees Celsius. My GTX670s in SLI run 70 degrees Celsius or less, and I am running a Corsair HX1000W power supply, so power is not the issue.

So far this has happened two times, once on 8/27/2013, then again last night, 9/4/2013. On 8/27 my system totally shutdown and rebooted. Last night, my system just froze; everything was still on, just frozen in a still-screen, and I had to hold the power button down to reboot the machine. No BSOD at all, just what I described above.

Both times I was playing FFXIV: ARR. I built this rig almost a year ago, and game daily on it with no issues until recently.

The only things that are recently different are:
    1. Instead of playing Rift, I am now playing FFXIV: ARR
    2. I am running several monitoring programs, such as MultiPing, Argus Monitor (paid version), HWMonitorPro (paid version), RealTemp 3.70, Moo0 System Monitor, and Rainmeter.
    3. I installed BitDefender 2013 Total Security in lieu of the built in Windows Defender that comes with Windows 8.

My Windows System and Application event logs are totally clean. I have been constantly checking them, with the exception of the Event 41.

I am currently running the NVidia 320.49 drivers.

Here are my game rig specs:
    Case: AZZA Hurrican 2000
    Mobo: ASRock Extreme6 Z77 LGA1155
    CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5 GHz 8MB cache LGA1155 (BX80637I73770K)

I was going to make a new thread but my problem is so similar to everyone's here. Game crashes randomly, no BSOD just a window saying the game stopped working and has to close. Detailed info on window as follows:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: ffxiv.exe
    Application Version: 1.0.0.0
    Application Timestamp: 522639d7
    Fault Module Name: nvd3dum.dll
    Fault Module Version: 9.18.13.2049
    Fault Module Timestamp: 51c40f25
    Exception Code: c0000005
    Exception Offset: 005ac81b
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033
    Additional Information 1: 0a9e
    Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789
    Additional Information 3: 0a9e
    Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

The reason it's not the same as others here is that mine mentions my video driver as the fault module instead of ffxiv.exe, and it's not limited to just this game but rather all intensive 3d games. Also my system doesn't crash, just the game. So is my problem similar enough to sit here? I reinstalled OS and formatted drive, to no avail.

What GPU model and what temps are you getting at load? Could be an overheating issue.
