Graphics Card Trouble, Need Insight!

I am a little bummed out. I was previously playing FFXIV 1.0 and ARR Beta's on a AMD Radeon HD 5770. At max I was getting about 27-30fps in crowded areas and around 40fps in non crowded areas(instanced).

I looked at a few benchmarks on different sites comparing my old 5770 to the newer 7850 that I wanted to buy and the 7850 did twice and a little over twice the performance of the 5770. I bought the card(along with a new PSU 600watt), installed it and ran the benchmark and even got twice the score on max settings than I got using the 5770.

Playing the game officially now on the new 7850 card, it is running super quiet(my other one roared like a lion lol) and I get around 60fps in instanced areas which is good but in crowded areas, I seem to be getting 27-30fps again I updated my drivers to most recent and I am now wondering if my card is not using it's full potential or if there is something I am missing?

If anyone could please give me some insight or advice on what I can do to increase playability performance I would greatly appreciate it, thank you!

No your not being rude, I thought about posting there but I felt that was more for technical problems with the game...which I guess it what my problem is lol. I'll post one there as well, thank you :P

Hey no biggie. I always figured the Tech Support part of the forum is where the helpful people are at. GD is usually just full of the rage. ;p

It sounds like the culprit could be your cpu, which iswhat does most of the work loading characters. Since you say this only happens in town, this is probably the cause. What cpu do you use and do you happen to know your mobo to rule out a mobo bottleneck?

Could be possible cpu bottleneck, ARR actively uses 4 cores/threads.

Try turning on occlusion culling or try using the "high" preset settings.

There's no such thing as motherboard bottleneck unless he's using PCIe 1.1 on the video card or using an IDE HDD. very unlikely.

There is not much to do to increase performance keep drivers updated or use the ones that work best for the game, make sure you got 8gb ram other than that upgrade cpu/gpu depending on which one is behind the other.

Seriously though I am playing on xfired 5770 hard preset settings, and yes they are running at max and sound like turbines form a jet plane lol, and everything is fine so you should be fine too dipping down to 25/30 fps during fates in in crowded areas is not such a big deal. You need to decide if you can play like this or fork out some cash.

Personally I think you should not have went from a 5770 to a 7850 but should have got a gtx760 instead. Dunno what your cpu is but you could try OC but then depends on what you have.

Will it be bottlenecked if my PC is PhenomII x4?

That's exactly what i was getting at. Unlikely but when troubleshooting you rule out the simple issue first. And ignore my double post. There sends to be a few kinks with mobile site

Would help to know the rest of your PC spec; also make sure that in-game you don't have your FPS limited to 30.
