Making Monies

Hey everyone,

I'm a noob, not gonna lie. I played FFXIV early beta, it was horrible, I never went back (from the sounds of most peoples opinions of it, maybe not a bad thing...)

Anywho, fast forward and here we are.

I'm low level, can't progress thanks to the instance bug - so decided to go and learn some crafts. I've spent all my money, made no return on it, and now I'm poor. So poor infact, I can't even teleport any more =-P

So my question is: How does one make money?

I'm not looking a "make millions in 5 minutes@!@!@!" guide - literally just how do I make money? Fighting NPC's is a bit hit-and-miss, as you're relying on items. I'm in Limsa Lominsa which seems limited on gathering skills (although maybe I'm wrong?).

Any advice is very welcome - thank you! :-)

Instead of crafting, How about you go gather some crystals, woods etc etc and sell it?

Mining, botanic and fishing.
Grab the item and sell it... It's a long way to make money but stay positive you'll grown up with level and exp...

Well for starters, why would you spend all your money on crafting, when you don't have access to a retainer to sell your stuff?

Secondly, you make money through the market board, which requires you to first have a retainer.

As someone already stated, you should be doing gathering instead. You can make money much easier by selling crystals and what not.

Tradecraft Leves + HQ turn-ins.

Sitting on almost 20k from crafting. And I still have 41 allowances left =^.^=

The other thing that helps is, I don't teleport around a whole lot. Since I'm still working on getting all my DoH to 20, I've been sticking to one city at a time. Also, the main cities are flagged as "favorites" for me so I get a reduced teleport fee when I do have to teleport to a different city.

From my experiences teleporting is a bad idea unless you're sitting on a huge pile of money, like Isyaan right here. Always prefer chocobos/rafts/airship.

Fishing is the gathering of choice if you only have access to La Noscea.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you actually cant sell on the marketboard untill level 20 and after doing story quest to get a retainer? If this is true, then the only option is to sell to vendors or start spamming /sh to sell your gatherables I take it?

Correct, you need a retainer in order to sell on the market board.

Crafting and selling to the vendors however, is a BAD idea, as you will spend more money, and time crafting everything, then you will make selling to the venders. The best option for anyone, is to just not put to much into crafting until you have a retainer if your sole intent is to sell what you make. Gathering you can do no problem, you really wont spend much money gathering any way.

The level requirement is actually 17, though I guess most people are close to 20 when they reach the phase in main quest.
