For added performance go into your Nvidia control panel and click on manage 3D settings. Look down the list for power management and click on maximum performance ( it's on adaptive by default usually ) I did this with my GTX 460 and my FPS improved quite a bit and it runs a lot smoother.... As it happens I've just order a GTX 670 and the i5 4570 haswell so I hope this works on that like it does on my GTX 460 lol

    I have (2)GTX 780s overclocked, i7 3770k @ 5ghz. I score 22.5k on the benchmark.

In game I get 30fps at horizon. The issue is that the game isn't well optimized, and certainly not for SLI. The benchmark runs SLI great, but the actual game barely has it enabled if even so at all. Gpu usage goes down to 40% on both cards and the GPU downclocks even though I force it.

The only areas that seem to be optimized well are the instances. I easily get 200+fps in them.

Yeah, pretty much for now only nVidia users, but in the old thread about same issue in the beta-forums there was some AMD card users too.

It sounds more like the CPU or HD is what's getting bogged down. If GPU drops below 50% that's usually indication of a bottleneck elsewhere. It would not surprise me if it's CPU since FFXIV is DX9 only and doesn't fully utilize quad core or higher CPU's.

    GPU: GTX 670
    CPU: i5-3570k @ 3.4 ghz

    Is the game somewhat unoptimized?

I haven't read any complaints from others on this subject.
I think it's fine. My rig is almost identical to yours, though my 670 is 4G VRAM, and my processor is a decent AMD 6100 6 core. I get 60 FPS everywhere but cities, where the sheer amount of people, actions and objects being rendered at max settings causes me to drop from 60 to 25-35 fps, depending. Just the nature of the game in my opinion. I also heard that the latest nVidia Driver works better with XIV ARR then earlier drivers do. I'll test that tomorrow, but a game that looks this good, you'd need a very good PC to be 60 fps in cities in my opinion.

    W. T. F.

Seriously?? Is this true?? UGH. LAME Square LAME. Quad cores are quite old now and not supporting them is just STUPID.
What morons do you have coding this game anyway?? NOT inspiring faith thats for damn sure.

At any rate I have my own thread on performance issues with a Radeon 6870 HD the game runs at acceptable frames with most settings at max but there is an unacceptable stutter that happens every 5-10secs that makes the game not fun to play.

I am also suffering from interesting FPS drops. From my understanding, a GTX 680 should slice through this game like butter even on maximum settings. The benchmark scored me 9XXX'ish, with a reported 80FPS average. When I get in game. I dont see much higher then 60. I just read there is an FPS cap so I will attempt to locate that. Otherwise, when I am standing in Uldah, looking down the street with very few characters on screen, my FPS sits at about 35-40.
My CPU is a 1st Gen i7 930 Bloomfield @ 3.6Ghz. Getting dated but I'd imagine its still keeping up with some stock next gens. Hard drives should not impact a game unless this is a new proven concept in the last year or so... Running the latest drivers... Not sure what else to try besides turning the settings down. [Obviously I dont want to do this knowing others with the same setup are getting full performance]

I will be trying a multitude of drivers tonight to see any difference. Will report back.

You are right with the CPU in this case, O.C. your CPU a little bit will overcome some bottleneck. GF and I had similar setup except I have first gen i7 and hers is 3rd gen i7 and the different was significant for me to question if the bottleneck was at the CPU that I put in an older card in my system. The result was other than TEMP difference, my 1 full gen older GPU had same performance as newer GPU.
