    The thing about the Path Companions is, ironically, they were actually a method in the original game to allow Disciples of the Hand and Disciples of the Land to undertake the storyline (in other words, have a Disciple of War or Magic to fight for them) - it was the exact same reason for the Parley minigame which provided a way of actually avoiding combat. Of course Parley was a broken mess and the Path Companions sadly were wasted potential. My desire to see them return though hasn't changed since my earlier post though - I'd love to have them back.

    I never got far enough in 1.0 to get to Path Companions, but I do miss Adventuring Fellows from XI. I'd want a system similar to that to return/be in the game.

    Hahaha I remember the Parley thing. The first time I ran into it I was like "whaaa?" and then failed so instead I slaughtered the amalj'aa.

    Unfortunately, path companions were nothing like NPCs from XI. They only showed up for certain quests and were...pretty much useless. They probably would have been expanded on though, if everything had worked out.

    It was mandatory as part of the story, yes, but it's nothing like your chocobo companion. You didn't go out and level your Path Companion and give it skills and whatnot. Iirc, you couldn't even choose the weapon they used on the rare occasions they fought with you.
