I still don't get your point. When I first started playing the north american release:
    • I could find a party to exp with.
    • I could do my outpost supply quests.
    • I could do my missions.
    • I could do my chocobo license quest.
    • I could do my kazham quest (or save up gil to buy the airship pass)
    • I could do scroll quests.
    • I could build up conquest points for conquest items.
    • I could unlock extra jobs and level those.
    • I could unlock the support job feature.
Can't say for certain if BCNMs were in the game at the time or not, as I quit playing for several months for personal reasons unrelated to my enjoyment of the game.

Yah, we have quests in FFXIV... that give what exactly? Junk? Yah, what fun!

Yah, we have faction credits in FFXIV... that give what exactly? NM guildleves that give disappointing endgame gear? Yah, what fun!

Most of this stuff took a long-ass time to do too, which made it much more rewarding in the end.

I played it since day 1 and there wasn't a lot to do, monks didn't even punch properly.

Well with a level cap they didn't have much of a choice or there wouldn't be a reason to play Abyssea. Be lucky the new gear doesn't take an arm, leg, and then some to get like other stuff.

Also, thank god for the Dynamis changes, that quickly became the most boring 2.5-3 hours of my life after the wow factor wore off.

Was thinking of going back to FFXI too. XIV is really really upsetting me lately, it's depressing. We didn't even get a Lodestone post today (not that I imagine it would have been good anyway...)

At this time in Post Release in FFXI's lifetime. Valkurm Dunes, Qufim, Kazham, and many other areas IIRC did not exist. Guess where people leveled before that?

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Well if anyone is thinking of heading back to FFXI until FFXIV picks up you are more than welcome to join us on Leviathon as we just started on there a few days ago. Can't believe how much it has changed levelling is so fast, with Empress band on in the Dunes I got 731Exp at level 13 lol

Also met some very nice and helpful people who have been helping us with Sub Job items and Kazham keys. One of our members even got boots from Leaping Lizzy the first time we saw it.

All in all it's been a blast since we returned and at £10 on Steam you can't grumble. I say if you are unhappy with FFXIV and thinking about going to FFXI for until things pick up stop thinking and just do it. Wish I had done it sooner ^^

No idea, but I guess it doesn't matter, they've pretty much lost me. Logged in this weekend, and was barely able to stomach doing one guildleve. They have had almost 7 full months since they released the game. I'm done waiting for them to pull their heads out of their rears. As of now, I'm just waiting for TOR to release.

    Think for a second:

FFXI Beta - 2001, Release 2002, 1 1/2 years worth of fixes and eventual expansion pack.
FFXI = not rushed out the door
FFXI = Not having to redesign the foundation
FFXI = Can be continually expanded even by reusing old zones

    FFXIV? The exact opposite.

You're making common sense, which most people don't seem to grasp.

You are right, but the way this game was released doesn't follow common sense, only some obscure and unrealistic company strategy. It's understandable people would miss that point and ask such questions.
When i first heard the FFXIV release date i immediately thought that it was awfully fast, and in retrospective i was indeed blinded by my trust in SE to not realize what the only possible outcome was.
