I find the new storylines much less.. enjoyable. But it is not fair to say that FFXIII had a bad story. It was really good. But the way the game worked it, it was not the best. Many characters and situations could've been developed more, specially the villains.
But I really liked its message - how we grow up doing what people want us to do, believing in what people want us to believe, being part of a system that we take for granted, like religion and the economic system. How we believe we are free, but if we carefully look around we see everything we can do is limited. And Vanille was probably one of the best characters in the series... except for the voice ;P

I predict 1.18 will come sometime before the end of June. What do I win?!
Sorry, I meant ff13 in my last post.
Anways, what I think happened is that SE decided to just tone back things like plot, character development, and story after the merge. They've been trying to make their games a little more MMO like to me, but in the process of trying to give their games an MMO feeling, they lost something important. They lost what made the FF series special.
Take kefka vs Sephiroth. Now there's an epic villain debate if there ever was one. The only reason foes like bowser and ganondorf even rank in the polls near them is they were in every game. K and S only had one game to make an impact. The villains of ff 12-13? Meh. Seymour from 10 was at least an interesting take on the main villain and it did become a little personal over time. I'd argue that he was the chief antagonist of 10 and not sin. Yuna vs Sin might have been what the story was about, but Tidus vs Seymour was what the game was about. It was Tidus's desire as the protagonist (not the main hero, which was Yuna) to save Yuna and defeat sin vs Seymour's desire as the antagonist (not the main villian, which was Sin) to kill Yuna and become sin which was the real point of conflict in that game.
Anyways I'm not sure that we grew up as fans, I think that SE left us because MMO players where the "hotter" fans for them.
No one expects the miquote inquisition!!!

One of the things you'll see missing is humor. FF was always somewhat comical with huge conflicts in between. Now FF is becoming more serious. From Cloud's crossdressing, all of FFIX style, Selphie's rolling down the hill - there was always something that would make us laugh even though the world was about to end XD Some may argue that Sazh in FFXIII is the comic relief.. well it is, but only in the beginning, and it's a character, not situations ;P I can't really express myself.Sorry, I meant ff13 in my last post.

Well.. MINIGAMES... we need minigames. And nowadays FF don't have any XD everyone should agree on this lol

Ehm... wich info? o.O
Months ago they told us what they're working on, that's not an info. They told us they're gonna redesign the battle system and the armory system (something we were already expecting), they told us they were gonna add Companies (again, we already knew it even before the release) and then stop. The fact that we know they're working on something isn't an info, we know they're redesigning basically everything, but by now we should know what are their plans.
I agree with Alexia, content such as Chocobos and Airships should be left for a better moment, but we are talking about fixes of the basic gameplay, wich are gonna be released shortly (hopefully) and that will affect the overall game experience. Such things require time to be understood and releasing infos right before the implementetion IMHO would be a big mistake.
Just look at what happened when they changed the sp gain process in November: the only info we had was that it was gonna change, we didn't know how, we speculated it was gonna be mob based instead of action based and we were right, but nobody told us that the amount of SP per mob outside guildleves was gonna drop drastically; this led to a huge amount of complains, actually a lot of people stopped playing because of this. It took some time to realize that levelinking we could get much more SP than we were gaining with the previous system (they told us that there was a bonus for levelinking, but they didn't say it was the only way to get decent SP) but at that time a lot of players were already lost. All of the complains could have been avoided if they gave us better infos long before the update, after the patch we were just unprepared to the new system.
Wow effect works fine for content, but it's totally counterproductive for fixes to the gameplay.
Also, Tanaka had communication issues, but if I remember correctly he gave us plenty of informations about the NM long before they were implemented, he doesn't deserve all this s**t. Plus the fact that the previous producer gave less infos than Yoshi-P isn't an excuse for this silence...
