Starting City

Don't fret too hard, you're no longer tied to that city upon level 15 and the Airship access storyline unlock. This takes less than a day to get to. You're able to change your class upon completing the level 10 guildmaster quest as well, so you can quickly get back to where you were. You keep all your old experience earned and all your loot... Perhaps you should have paid more attention though when you selected your starting point.

I'm only concerned about content restricted to a certain city. And yes I might have made a mistake during character creation, but not the kind of a mistake that punishes me the whole game (especially that there wasn't enough emphasis on the subject of starting city in the process)

as others have already said, you do NOT choose your starting city, it is determined by what class you chose, because all of the various guilds are unique to each town. It was like this in 1.0 never changed so I don't understand how it is stumping you now. And also as others have already said, you leave your starting town an work for all towns between lv15-20 & @ 20 you start working for a grand company (same as 1.0) and at this time you actually choose your allegiance to which city you want

Actually in 1.0 you could start in whichever city you wanted regardless of the class you started as.
