The whole idea behind the idea of an add-on is to give the user the freedom to choose to use, or not to use them. I think an add-on to allow people to personalize their UI could be useful. As is obvious here, people have different preferences. Why funnel them all into the same cookie-cutter UI? On the same vein, some people like knowing how well they are performing in a pure numbers aspect. Why not let them have something that shows them the numbers in real-time? It gives them no advantage in game, and doesn't hurt other players, so where's the harm?
It really depends on the add-ons. If it goes the same route of other games that allow add-ons, people will be forced to install certain ones to join endgame guilds even though they prefer not to use them. I'd rather not start up on add-ons because that is the direction it will likely go.

Minor add-ons I'm okay with. Stuff that shows you facts about your character (menu with all of your equip durability % for instance) I'm okay with. I would even be okay with an add-on that makes the menus simpler for keyboard/mouse users sense the game is developed around controllers (which I think they are planning to do anyway). I also don't have a problem with meters other than the people that like to brag about their numbers, as if anyone cares. An add-on that tells you when a boss does a move, or one that tells you how much hate you've built up, I am not okay with. It takes away important strategic aspects about a game that I prefer to keep.
